What Boom Studios Figures Could Be Next For The Stunning Power Rangers Lightning Collection in 2023?

Ever since 2016, the multiverse of the Power Rangers franchise has been explored by Boom Studios in a whole new way with numerous stories. Through these new tales, not being constrained by the limitations of Japanese Super Sentai footage, the franchise has been able to add a number of new suits and characters to the canon of the franchise. So far some of these new additions have been added to Hasbro’s Power Rangers Lightning Collection going fans the chance to bring these designs from the page to life.

Recently it’s been discovered that later on in 2023 Hasbro will be adding a couple more releases of comic characters to the toyline but due to the listings for this group of 4 new figures still being codenamed, it’s impossible to know for sure which characters they will end up being.

The Illuminerdi has already covered the recent leak of the upcoming Omega Rangers 4 Pack release, while how this is being released is also unknown it’s likely it could be made as a convention exclusive for this summer. This set will also be diving into the world of the Boom Studios comics but with the new listings found and the comics continuing to launch even more issues with more possibilities for figure choices then ever there’s so many options Hasbro could go with.

It should be stressed none of these options are leaks for what the final choices will end up being, only just what makes the most sense with the way items in the Lightning Collection are often put together. Hasbro loves to safe money wherever they can so it’s to be expected some of these figures will be slight repoints or remolds of existing figures already out there.

Thankfully even with that in mind there’s still a number of suits these figures could be.

QUEEN RANGER SLAYER

Ranger Slayer Boom Studios

Following Lord Drakkon being the first comic exclusive Ranger and first one to get a figure made in the Lightning Collection the next one to make the jump and become an iconic Ranger in her own right was Kimberly from the World of the Chinless as Ranger Slayer. Hasbro made a figure of Ranger Slayer back in 2020 during Wave 5 which disappointed some fans due to a lack of a civilian head.

Luckily for fans there is another chance Hasbro could take advantage of to bring Ranger Slayer back to the toyline. In 2020 she gained a new form with new armor and helmet during the Drakkon New Dawn miniseries and while that series was not received the greatest by fans this form will be returning to the pages later this summer in the new issue of Power Rangers Unlimited: The Coinless. In the past certain releases have been planned to tie into media releases from across the franchise so the timeline of these new listings would be perfect for a second chance at her.

THE NEW GREEN RANGER

One of the most glaring missing characters from the Lightning Collection is the new holder of the Green Ranger powers in the comics: Matt Cook. Introduced back in the Go Go Power Rangers series Matt eventually became the new Green Ranger during the Mighty Morphin series and has been part of the main MMPR team in the comics for over 2 years of issues. Due to his long-lasting duration in the books it’s a shock Hasbro hasn’t made a figure yet.

The only official piece of merchandise Matt has gotten is a statue from PVC collectibles but he deserves more in order to create his own legacy in the footsteps of his predecessor the legendary Tommy Oliver.

MORPHINAUT & THE SQUADRON

The dream choice for Hasbro would be a figure that requires no new sculpting of any kind and that’s where the Morphinaut from Power Rangers Universe fits this batch of mystery listings perfectly. Around the time of The Illuminerdi’s Exclusive report of the first Battlizer coming to the line from Wild Force I posted on Twitter that Morphinaut was another figure in the works. He hasn’t shown up yet, even with the recent release of the yet to be officially announced Invisible Phantom figure that uses the same mold he would.

In the series he’s introduced Morphinaut is the original form of the iconic Phantom Ranger who eventually gets his white armor corrupted by Dark Specter turning It into the look fans know him from the Power Rangers Turbo show. All Hasbro would have to do is paint that original figure white and give him the staff from Astronema since he wielded it in the book, something that is also easy to do as her weapon has also appeared already in the line.

To go with him, though not likely in this group of upcoming figures are any of the members of the Squadron team. Based off the designs of Gosei Sentai Dairanger this canonically very first team of Rangers could potentially show up in the line someday but would be better suited for another multi figure pack sometime down the line.

DARK RANGER

When it comes to popular and logical choices Hasbro should go with for these upcoming figures none other tops that list than that of the Dino Charge Dark Ranger. The character of Heckyl, fan favorite from Power Rangers Dino Super Charge was destined to Morph into a Ranger of his own with a storyline and toy evidence pointing towards it, only for it to never happen on screen.

Thankfully Heckyl has finally given his chance when Boom Studios introduced the Dark Ranger into their Beyond the Grid storyline. While he didn’t stick around for long in the book there was an entire issue in the arc dedicated to the backstory bridging the gap from his last screen appearance to his realized Morph.

Recently The Illuminerdi has exclusively reported that actor Ryan Carter will be retuning the franchise as Heckyl in the upcoming season Power Rangers Cosmic Fury this fall, where he will finally Morph on screen. Timing a release for a figure of him around this using the already heavily present male Dino Charge figure mold it would take a few new pieces from Hasbro to bring the suit to shelves.

CROSSOVERS & MORE

Coming up with options to fill only 4 mystery slots can take a very long time. Since it’s unknown what choices Hasbro will end up going with an article like this can go on and on, plus while the other options mentioned all have some sort of incredibly easy to make or tie in with other media reasons for them being great choices that doesn’t mean there are dozens of other options that might happen.

Hasbro has already dipped their toes into making the many soldiers of Lord Drakkon’s army the Ranger Sentries. The Tyrannosaurus variety of these troopers was made into a figure back in 2021 but there are half a dozen other options, at least, for who could protect the evil ruler who himself has multiple power up forms not covered by his already released 2 figure variations.

While unlikely due to how new they are another great choice would be the new Dimension X Rangers from the second crossover with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Figures based on the first crossover storyline were previously made and with these new designs being primarily repoints they seem almost made specifically to become Lightning Collection releases. However it’s more probable these will be released under their own group of listings later on and not present here.

Other started sets include the Color Swapped Rangers in which 3 more are needed to complete the set of those variants among many other good MMPR options from Grace Sterling as the Red Ranger from 1969, Kimberly with the Dragon Shield, or the whole team energized by the Dragonzord Power Coin.
