We are now deep into the summer movie season, with the first two tentpoles out (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Fast X) and a third one about to swim into theaters worldwide before the end of the month. But June is where the meat of this summer lives, and one of its biggest movies is definitely The Flash.
While there are still three more weeks to go as of the posting of this story, we now have some early box office tracking numbers to sink our teeth into for Andy Muschietti’s highly-anticipated event. According to Box Office Pro, The Flash is currently on track to make somewhere between $115M and $140M at the North American box office during its first three days of release. But what does that even mean?
The Flash Box Office Tracking Into Perspective: The DCEU
If The Flash were to open on the lower end of expectations, at around $115M, it would become the fourth-highest opening weekend in the DCEU that was kicked off 10 years ago with Man of Steel. That would be, precisely, the film it would be behind, but it could easily surpass it if it managed to make a few bucks more — the Henry Cavill-led film opened in 2013 to $116.6M.

The Flash Box Office Tracking Into Perspective: 2023
This part is a bit more complicated, because this discussion depends on how well other movies that are to be released before June 16 perform at the box office. Right now, tracking for both Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is lagging behind The Flash’s, so if Box Office Pro’s prediction for their respective opening weekends turns out to be on the money, The Flash would effectively become the third highest opening weekend of the year if it came on the lower end of expectations.

As of today, #2 belongs to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with $118M, so if the lower end of The Flash’s tracking range is a bit pessimistic and the film is able to crack $120M, it would immediately jump to #2 of the opening weekend chart. The top spot belongs to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, whose $146M is currently out of range for the Scarlet Speedster, according to Box Office Pro.
As everything stands right now, if The Flash opens to anywhere in the aforementioned range, it would immediately jump to #6 on this year’s domestic box office ranks by the end of its opening weekend. However, since The Little Mermaid is projected to make around $125M on its four-day opening weekend, and Across the Spider-Verse could open, two weeks before The Flash, to anywhere between $85M and $105M, it’s probably safe to assume that The Flash will actually become the eighth highest-grossing film of the year in the North American market by June 18.
The Flash tickets are now on sale
Earlier this week, Warner Bros. revealed a new trailer for The Flash (which you can check out below) and announced that tickets are now on sale for the highly-anticipated film.
Here is the official synopsis for the film:
Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.
That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

Ezra Miller reprises their role as Barry Allen (more than once, actually, as the narrative features multiple Barrys from alternate timelines) in a film that will also feature some familiar faces — Michael Keaton returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and so does Ben Affleck, who has some new action in the trailer above; Jeremy Irons is also coming back for one last hurrah as Alfred, along with Michael Shannon as Zod and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. Sasha Calle plays Supergirl in the film, with Ron Livingston playing Henry Allen after Billy Crudup had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. Maribel Verdú steps in as Nora Allen.Â
