Could Avengers: Secret Wars top Avengers: Endgame? Read on to find out how it could!
Avengers

New information on surprise lead characters in Avengers: Secret Wars has just been revealed. As the finale to “The Multiverse Saga” and an adaptation of one of Marvel’s most notable event comics, the hype is real for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Secret Wars has been rumored to heavily feature characters from Marvel Legacy projects, through the use of the Multiverse. Marvel Legacy is the branding used by Marvel to label films and television series that were created before the dawn of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Therefore, characters like Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine would fall under this branding.

An All-Time Great Marvel-Team Up May Happen In Avengers: Secret Wars

One of Twitter’s resident comic book movie scoopers, @MyTimeToShineHello, outlined the basic plots for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars in a tweet, which you can view below:

The Kang Dynasty will focus on the heroes in the main universe, known as Earth-616, and their failed efforts to stop the Council of Kangs. Avengers: Secret Wars will pick up directly after, showing the rise of a multiversal Avengers team, comprised of characters like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. This team, assembled by the Time Variance Authority, will be the ones to aid the main heroes in finally defeating the Council of Kangs.

The Multiversal Team Could Be The Real Culmination of Years of Multiverse Set-Up

A multiversal Avengers team feels like the ultimate payoff to massive fan demand for such a team since “The Multiverse Saga” began. The multiversal Avengers also reinforces how important films like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool 3 are and will be, respectively, to “The Multiverse Saga’s” grander narrative. Though he wasn’t mentioned in the tweet, I’m hoping Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man appears in Secret Wars as a member of the team, getting in a situation where he fights an alien.

As I’ve increasingly believed, Deadpool 3 may directly show the roots of the multiversal Avengers team. Possibly, one of Deadpool 3‘s post-credits scenes could be Deadpool having Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man join the team. All of these rumors surrounding Secret Wars definitely make Deadpool 3 one of Phase 5’s most important films.

While the rumored basic plots of both films feel reminiscent of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, showing nearly all of the Marvel Legacy characters fighting together is the only way Marvel can top the magnitude of Endgame‘s “Avengers Assemble!” scene. It’s even more plausible because, through the 20th Century Fox buyout and deal with Sony, Secret Wars could feature other characters like Ioan Gruffudd’s Mister Fantastic, Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, and Nicholas Cage’s Ghost Rider.

The possibilities are endless in what Secret Wars can do to make itself the ultimate love letter to Marvel’s 2000s film adaptation era.
