TMNT: MUTANT MAYHEM Home Media Review – Great Movie… No Exclusive Features

Is 'TMNT: Mutant Mayhem" worth owning (outside of loving the film)?
TMNT: Mutant Mayhem Home Media

The action-packed and highly entertaining Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT): Mutant Mayhem is now available for home viewing, just in time for the holiday season. Released on December 12, 2023, by Paramount Home Entertainment, the film can be enjoyed on  4K Ultra HD SteelBook, 4K Ultra HDBlu-ray™, and DVD.

The Actual Movie

With a 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes® and widespread acclaim from audiences and critics, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem offers a fresh and fun-filled adventure for the whole family. The film brings a new perspective to the iconic characters, making it a must-watch for both long-time fans and newcomers.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem follows the Turtle brothers as they venture out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers. Alongside their new friend April O’Neil, they take on a mysterious crime syndicate but soon face an army of mutants.

The film features an all-star voice cast, including Jackie Chan and Ice Cube, bringing new life to the beloved characters. The young voice cast adds a fresh dynamic to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, making the film a unique addition to the franchise.

The Bonus Features

The home media releases have over 40 minutes of bonus content, providing fans with a more in-depth look into the making of the film. Highlights include:

  • TEENage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Discover how the film uniquely features teenage voice actors for the Turtles, enhancing the authenticity and camaraderie on screen.
  • The Mutant Uprising: Dive into the world of the Turtles’ mutant antagonists, including the original character Superfly, voiced by Ice Cube.
  • New York, New York: The Visual World of MUTANT MAYHEM: Explore the film’s innovative visual style, character designs, and environments.
  • Learn to Draw Leo: Engage in a fun tutorial to learn how to draw Leonardo, the leader of the Ninja Turtles.

The MAJOR Downside

The features of the film are great. I love when animation includes how to draw videos. Plus with the unique look, absolutely stacked cast, and fresh take on the TMNT, there is a lot of stuff to dive into in Mutant Mayhem. The features included, are sparse. Which is a huge bummer. I would love to deep dive into every aspect of the film as much as possible. But there’s not even a commentary track! Maybe it’s because everyone was on strike and could not. But at least a director’s commentary would have been nice.

But despite the sparse offerings of bonus features, the features included are pretty good. I am happy they were at least able to focus on the “teens’ of the TMNT. It’s actually very surprising that this is the first time in any iteration the teens are playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The only problem with the bonus features… THEY’RE ALL ONLINE! They’re the promotion to buy the physical copy of the film. There’s absolutely no extra value now because of that.

A Bit of a Bummer

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is a must-have film for fans of the franchise and those looking for an entertaining, action-packed movie. With its fresh take on the characters and the added bonus content, it’s a perfect addition to any home entertainment collection.

The movie itself is far worth it for any fan. However, there is no added or exclusive value to owning the film. The only thing I believe is sort of worth getting is the Steelbook Edition. But that is only because I like Steelbooks. Otherwise, if you just want watch the film, subscribe to Paramount+. And if you want to see the featurettes, I shared them in this review.

For providing 0 extra value and no exclusive content to the film, outside of the Stelbook Edition, I give the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT): Mutant Mayhem Home Media version, a

1/10

The Steelbook Edition gets a 5/10, it has cool art.

TMNT: Mutant Mayhem is currently available on digitalstreaming on Paramoun+, and coming to 4K Ultra HD SteelBook, 4K Ultra HDBlu-ray™, and DVD.
