‘Tiny Toons Adventures‘ is returning in the form of a new Tiny Toons Looniversity series on HBO Max.
It was recently announced that The Animaniacs show is coming back and headed to Hulu this November, and now yet another beloved Warner Bros. cartoon is making a comeback. Tiny Toon Adventures show gets a two-season, straight-to-series order for HBO Max & Cartoon Network.
Tiny Toon Adventures is an animated comedy television series executive produced by Steven Spielberg, which is the first collaborative effort of Warner Bros. Animation and Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. Created by Tom Ruegger, Tiny Toon Adventures ran for a total of three seasons between 1990 and 1992. The show follows the adventures of a group of young cartoon characters who attend Acme Looniversity to become the next generation of characters from the Looney Tunes series.
Each episode of Tiny Toons Adventures was comprised of several shorts where students like Buster Bunny, Babs Bunny, Plucky Duck, Hamton J. Pig, Dizzy Devil, Elmyra Duff, and Montana Max learn lessons that turned into new takes on classic cartoons. The young students are not entirely dissimilar from the likes of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and the rest of the Looney Tunes.
Tiny Toons Looniversity Is On the Way
Now the series will be revived as a new animated show called Tiny Toons Looniversity on the HBO Max streaming service. Babs, Buster Bunny, and the rest of the Acme Acres gang will be back and head to college to follow their ambitions. Looks like the new Tiny Toons Looniversity will tread a similar story as the original series, which is described like this:
“Babs, Buster Bunny, and the rest of the gang follow their comedic ambitions all the way to Acme Looniversity, the esteemed institution of higher hijinx learning, where young dreamers become professional toons. Here they form long-lasting friendships with one another and perfect their cartoony craft while studying under the greatest cartoon characters in history, the Looney Tunes.”
In the show, the school was called Acme Looniversity as it resembles the story of the students who are learning how to be looney. They’re learning to grow from being Tiny Toons to being Looney Tunes. The first look of this reboot was released, in which we can see a slightly updated version of Buster and Babs Bunny as they are popping out of their burrows.
Rebooting Tiny Toons Adventures for a new audience and releasing it via HBO Max absolutely makes sense. HBO Max already proved that they know how to reboot Looney Tunes with the same spirit and mostly the same style as the original shorts, so we can expect this new show to be as great as the original.
Erin Gibson (of the Throwing Shade podcast) will serve as showrunner and co-executive producer. Nate Cash (Adventure Time) is also co-executive producing. Gibson shared a sweet message about the project and her relationship with the OG show on her Instagram. “This cartoon has a sweet little twin bed in my heart and I am over the moon to be bringing it back with Nate Cash and the amazing people at WB and Amblin…Doesn’t it describe the best of us?”

Another good news for fans of the original is that Steven Spielberg’s name is still attached as executive producer, along with WB Animation and Cartoon Network Studios President Sam Register and Amblin Television Co-Presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank also executive producing.
Sam Register said in a statement:
“For many kids, Tiny Toons was their introduction to the world of Looney Tunes and, over time, Buster, Babs, Plucky, and all the characters grew to be just as beloved by an entirely new generation. The continuation of our great creative partnership with Amblin Television will bring these characters back for fans of all ages to enjoy.”
The President of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults, and Classics, Tom Ascheim said “Tiny Toons Looniversity will capture all the clever, subversive, and smart humor that made Tiny Toon Adventures such a standout series. Fans old and new will love to laugh at and with these characters all over again.”
Amblin’s Falvey and Frank added:
“These smart, hilarious and cheeky characters have left an indelible impression on the childhoods of so many. We’re thrilled to be able to continue our relationship with Warner Bros. Animation, HBO Max, and Cartoon Network to reimagine the Tiny Toons for new audiences, and we know that fans of the original series will be just as excited to share the show with their children as they will be to revisit a childhood favorite.”
The other creative talent involved with the show right now is Clint LaVigne, VP of Television at Amblin Television, and Audrey Diehl, Senior VP of Series at Warner Bros. Animation will oversee the day-to-day creative affairs of the show. There is no information regarding the cast, so we’ll have to wait and see if anyone from the original series will reprise their roles for the reboot.
