The Galaxy’s most brave, daring, dynamic, questionable and mischievous Clone Troopers – The Bad Batch – make their epic return!

Lucasfilm and Disney just gave fans a first official look at the upcoming animated Disney+ series, The Bad Batch. This upcoming series will be a spin-off of the highly successful Clone Wars animated series. The Bad Batch first appeared in the premiere episode of the final season of that series, and they are a commando squad unit – also known as Clone Force 99 – that consists of four special genetic mutated clone troopers. The names of these special clone troopers are Crosshair, Wrecker, Tech, and their leader Sgt. Hunter. Each Bad Batch clone has their own special ability.

Crosshair is clone with superb eyesight and incredible marksmanship that could go to long distance ranges. Wrecker is a clone with enhance strength and durability, but is extremely reckless. Tech has enhanced intelligence and mental capacity. Then finally Hunter has incredible and enhanced sensory abilities. The squad is eventually joined by a former Clone Corporal named Echo.

The Bad Batch Trailer Breakdown

At the start of the trailer, we see the Bad Batch approaching their home world of Kamino. Kamino is a water planet where all of the Clone Troopers were born, farmed, groomed, and trained into soldiers. The planet first appeared in Star Wars Episode 2: Attack Of The Clones.

The next shots we see are staples of planets, possibly old ones we saw in the franchise or maybe new. We are then shown interior shots that seem to look like a training room, possibly for cadets before seeing a close shot of Sgt. Hunter facing up a alien creature that has a laser whip weapon similar to a Lightsaber, which could be the Lightwhip. The Lightwhip was a weapon that was shown in the Expanded Universe canon of Star Wars.

The next few shots we see are the Bad Batch being involved in some battles and action in a variation of multiple settings. We even see Wrecker doing reckless comical action during the action sequences. We then see the first glimpses of the rise of the empire. We see that Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious) has finally turned the republic into the Galactic Empire.

We can assume and see that the Bad Batch are may or not be serving and working for the Empire, but a following shot might contradict it. However, the highlight of the trailer is that we see a fan favorite character from The Mandalorian appear: mercenary Fennec Shand (played by Ming-Na Wen in the previous series) appear and face Hunter. It seems we will see a younger Fennec before she has her run in with Din Djarin and Boba Fett.

More shots of spaceships are shown, including one that includes a crash star destroyer. The next couple of shots are more action scenes of missions from the Bad Batch. One shot we see them in a war torn dessert planet, and hunter fighting a flame trooper. We also see Tech fighting imperial stormtroopers. We could see that maybe the Bad Batch did not join the Galactic Empire after all. This act might be one of the events that could have started the rebellion.

We are shown more battles including an impressive shot of AT-ATs. Then finally we are shown a shot of a young Admiral Grand Moff Tarkin interrogating and having a conversation of the Bad Batch. We are then see a final shot of storm troopers marching on a planet with multiple species, likely trying to conquer it. The trailer had so much to reveal and teasing what’s next in the Star Wars universe.

Final Thoughts

the bad batch - clone force

Overall the trailer has gave us so much to be excited about: from the amazing visuals to its action scenes the Bad Batch series is looking to be incredible. By the looks of trailer we will be seeing the transition of the Old Republic into the Galactic Empire through the eyes of the Clone Troopers.

This would be an interesting take as we might be able to see what directly happened to the Clones after Order 66 and the forming of the Galactic Empire. The era of the Clone Wars is over, but the Bad Batch looks to carry on the legacy of the Clones that fought brave and hard before the empire, meaning it might as well be a direct sequel to the Clone Wars animated series.

The Bad Batch series is set to premiere in Disney Plus in 2021. There is no official release date as of yet, but Jennifer Corbett is the showrunner. Hopefully the Bad Batch crew can give us excitement and adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
