Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista gave up a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in order to star in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

Dave Bautista on Why He Chose Army of the Dead

In a recently released interview by EW, Dave Bautista revealed that he originally had a role in James Gunn’s highly anticipated The Suicide Squad, but exited the project after reading the script of Army of the Dead, even though he wasn’t interested before reading it.

Dave Bautista explained his reasoning:

“I said I wasn’t interested. I had this chip on my shoulder and was looking for juicy [dramatic roles]. Then I read the script and it was a lot deeper and had more layers than I thought. And also, to be quite frank, I wanted to work with Zack.”

Bautista didn’t reveal which role he was supposed to play, so I guess we shall wait and see if it will be revealed in the future. But he seems to really believe in Snyder’s Army of the Dead. Enough to compel him to exit a huge DC Films project with his friend James Gunn.
