High School Musical is one of Disney’s most popular and beloved franchises of all time, and now its series spinoff is growing in size.
It all started when the first High School Musical film premiered in 2006, starring Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, and Lucas Grabeel. The success of the original film garnered two more main sequels, with the third installment being a full-length theatrical release and a spinoff film.

Then came High School Musical: The Musical: The Series on Disney Plus, after years of fans clamoring for more content from the original cast. While viewers were skeptical at first, in the end it became a critical hit, causing Disney to order a second season.
High School Musical Ups The Stakes
The streaming platform has just released the trailer for Season 2 of the hit Disney Plus series, with plenty of hints for what’s to befall the relatively new stars of the HSM franchise.
As the trailer begins, we see East High School, with Drama teacher Ms .Jenn in front of a poster of her theater production of High School Musical from Season 1. The rest of the cast discusses the Spring Musical, as students hope to do a stage adaptation of High School Musical 2.
We are introduced to a new character named Zach Roy, played by Derek Hough, who is an acquaintance of Ms. Jenn (presumably an ex-boyfriend) as well as the drama teacher of North High School. He and his students will be doing a stage production of The Little Mermaid in order to apply for the Alan Menken Award.
Ms. Jenn is not about to take that lying down, so she decides on a stage production of Beauty and The Beast. We then see clips of the main cast – featuring Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bennett, Sofia Wylie, Matt Cornett, Julia Lester, Dara Renee and Larry Saperstein. Nina (Rodrigo) has to study at another school while in a long-distance relationship with Ricky (Bennett). Meanwhile, the students of North High form a rivalry with the East High cast.
Overall the trailer was really good and hypes up the upcoming season. We get to see more of the main stars, especially Rodrigo and Bennett, as well as some of the other supporting cast members from Season 1 also get featured.
I know some fans would be disappointed of the series not adapting High School Musical 2, but story-wise it would be a fresh and interesting take to see them adapting Beauty and The Beast instead. The High School Musical franchise will forever be a global phenomenon as long as the fans and audiences are all in this together.
