Nick Khan is the frontrunner for taking over WWE from Vince McMahon once he retires or dies. Whichever one happens first.
Who will take over for Vince once his time has come has been debated for as long as anyone can remember. He has been so involved in the product and it almost doesn’t seem likely he will ever let anyone take over his company. He will eventually retire or die and someone will have to take over.
The most logical choice was always either or both of his children, Shane and Stephanie. However, in recent years Triple H has taken over as the top contender to inherit WWE at least by fans.
Why Nick Khan?
However, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer the most likely to take over is now someone completely different and surprising. He believes the new frontrunner is President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan.
“It’s kind of a board of directors thing, but you know, probably (Nick Khan replacing Vince McMahon), yeah. Unless they went and hired somebody else from the outside, but probably Nick Khan, yes,” Meltzer said.

Khan is someone current WWE fans are very familiar with. Since joining WWE in August 2020 he has made a lot of big decisions for WWE. Most of these big decisions have made WWE fans very upset. He is reportedly behind the “budget cut” layoffs which has seen beloved and top performers being released, the rebranding of NXT to NXT 2.0 and the new move towards only hiring wrestlers under 30.
Nick Khan seems to have Vince’s ear like some kind of evil puppeteer and has what looks like total freedom to do whatever he wants within WWE.
Based on how WWE is making choices which were unheard of five years ago like releasing homegrown top Superstars like Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman it looks like Vince may be putting his money behind Khan. This change in policy seems to point more and more towards Khan or an outsider like Khan taking over.
Will The Profit Focused Mindset Heard WWE Long Term?
Khan’s mindset looks to be to focus on profits first and foremost and show record gains. These profits look great to board members, but at what cost? WWE fans are leaving and are no longer watching wrestling or going over to WWE’s main competitor, AEW. As more and more of Khan’s ideas are being implemented fans become more alienated and leave. Without someone telling Nick Khan how the wrestling business works and how important it is to have established stars to teach and “pass the torch” to new stars the product will suffer. The more the product suffers the more fans will leave.

He isn’t looking long term, even though he thinks he is. A promotion full of wrestlers who have only wrestled a year or two of experience will not work. It just can’t. The wrestlers are just not experienced enough to carry the promotion and there is only so much the experienced wrestlers can do. They can’t wrestle or cut promos for them. However, with Nick Khan wanting to release Superstars who make too much money WWE would be left with “cheap” wrestlers who make less because they aren’t as good.
The Fan Favorite For Taking Over, Triple H
On the other hand Triple H is loved by fans and has created one of the hottest wrestling promotions in the world in NXT. Triple H was reported to have complete creative control over NXT and built it up to what it became. He helped to create some of the WWE’s top wrestlers by building them up and teaching them how to be a top star while in NXT. That is of course all before it was taken from him shortly before the revamp.
I think Triple H should take over once Vince is gone. He has shown he can do everything needed to create a popular wrestling product. However, there is more to wrestling than the wrestling side of things. It is very possible Triple H doesn’t know or isn’t good at the business side of things. In that case Khan or someone like Khan may be very helpful, but it has to be a balance not free rein like it seems like Khan has now.
Who should take over WWE, Triple H, Stephanie, Shane or Nick Khan? If not any of them then who? Do you think Vince will ever retire or will he die working for WWE? Leave a comment below and let us know if you think someone from the wrestling side or from the business side should take over.
