Netflix released the first stunning trailer for Malcolm & Marie, starring Zendaya and John David Washington.

According to the Netflix synopsis:

When filmmaker Malcolm (John David Washington) and his girlfriend Marie (Zendaya), return home from a movie premiere and await his film’s critical response, the evening takes a turn as revelations about their relationship surface, testing the couple’s love.

The film was written and directed by Sam Levinson, the creator of the hit series Euphoria, which also stars Zendaya. She even won the Emmy for Best Actress in a TV Series this year.

The film was shot during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown between 17 June 2020 and 2 July 2020 with the approval of the Writers’ Guild of America, Directors’ Guild of America, and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists organizations. The shoot followed strict COVID-19 safety protocols to ensure the cast and crew worked in a safe environment.

It looks like Zendaya and John David Washington will deliver some amazing performances, based on the trailer above, and it will be interesting to see if they will change up the Best Actor and Best Actor race during this Awards Season.

Attendees of early screenings are saying that Zendaya could have a shot in getting some nominations, and Washington previously showed his chops in 2018’s BlacKkKlansman.

Marcell Rév was the cinematographer, he also worked on Euphoria, and it looks like he also did some magnificent work on Malcolm & Marie, with this gorgeous looking black & white cinematography.

Malcolm & Marie will be released on Netflix February 5, 2021 and will be Rated R for pervasive language and sexual content.
