The Secret Invasion crossover event is one of Marvel’ biggest comic book stories, and Kevin Feige has now shared some new details about its MCU adaptation as a series for Disney+.

During last year’s Disney Investors Day, Marvel Studios officially announced three new upcoming Disney+ series: Armor Wars, starring Don Cheadle as War Machine; Ironheart, starring Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, and Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos.

Everyone’s favorite Marvel head honcho had this to say:

“Well, there were more characters in the Secret Invasion comic series than there were in Endgame so, no. It’s not that but it very much is a showcase for Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn and tapping into the paranoia elements of the Secret Invasion comic series that was great with the twists and turns that that took. So, that’s certainly our focus more than, ‘Can we cram in more characters than Endgame?’”

We have seen Nick Fury and Talos working together in Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home, in which it was revealed that Nick Fury was relaxing on a spaceship while Talos was disguised as Nick Fury looking over Peter Parker. Talos’ wife Soren was disguised as Maria Hill as well.

It’s interesting that they want to focus on the “political paranoia aspect” and that they seem to focus the show and Jackson and Mendelsohn. There are countless possibilities, but we might have to wait until we get a closer understanding of what the show is about, as we at this point only know that Fury and Talos are working together again, but not for who or why and most importantly for how long.

We could discover even more characters disguised as Skrulls, but while in the comics the Skrulls wanted to take over the world, this at this point probably won’t be the case as we only have seen the Skrulls as the good guys in Captain Marvel. The as Fury disguised Talos did said in Spider-Man: Far From Home, that the Krees have sleeper cells on earth, this might be something that the Secret Invasion series further explores.

In Marvel Comics, Secret Invasion was a massive crossover event that featured of Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool, and many more, so it’s not possible to exactly adapt this story in the current state of the MCU.

Secret Invasion is expected to start filming in Summer 2021 and might be slated for a 2022 Disney+ release.
