Something Is Killing The Children is being adapted for the small screen by the creative team behind Doctor Sleep for Netflix.
Something Is Killing The Children is an ongoing comic book series from Boom Studios!, written by James Tynion IV (Batman, Wynd, The Department Of Truth) and illustrated by Werther Dell’Edera (Briggs Land). The comic was originally intended to be a limited series, but due to the overwhelming commercial and critical success of the book, it evolved into an ongoing series.
SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN: COMIC BEGINNINGS
The first primary arc of Something Is Killing The Children follows Erica Slaughter, a secret monster hunter from the mysterious Order of St. George, as she tries to save the sleepy town of Archer’s Peak. Her mission was to locate and destroy a monstrous beast known only as Obscuratype.
The Obscuratype is a type of monster that hungers for human flesh, smells fear, and can only be seen by children. In other words, the monsters which Erica Slaughter faces are pure nightmare fuel. She teams up with James, a young survivor of the creature’s grisly attacks, and the two try to save as many lives as they can.
The origin of Erica Slaughter and The Order of St. George is only now being explored in the comics. Erica’s origin started with issue #16, continued with #17, and will pick back up on July 24th, 2021 with issue #18. Considering the chronological structuring of the comic, it is safe to assume that the upcoming adaptation will start out in present day Archer’s Peak, as opposed to following a younger Erica in her past.
SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN BEING DEVELOPED FOR NETFLIX
Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, The Haunting Of Hill House, Gerald’s Game) are co-writing and executive producing a TV pilot adaptation of Something Is Killing The Children for Netflix. If the streamer likes what it sees, the series would be picked up for a full season, where Trevor Macy would serve as showrunner.
Joining Macy and Flanagan as executive producers are Boom!’s president of development Stephen Christy, TV head Mark Ambrose, and CEO Ross Richie. Most importantly, the original creative team of Tynion and Dell’Edera will act as co-executive producers. Bringing Tynion onboard this adaptation is essential to the success of this project, because no one knows the world of Something Is Killing The Children quite like it’s creator.Â

Horror is coming back to a post-Corona Hollywood with a vengeance. With blockbuster features such as Halloween Kills, Candyman and Dr. Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness right around the corner, it’s the perfect time for high-profile horror to make its way to the small screen. Netflix would be foolish not to pick up this horribly frightening and traumatizing series, and if they do, horror fans would be foolish not to check it out.
