Fans of the hit HBO Max series are in for a jam-packed season three, which will feature newcomers Red Hood, Commissioner Barbara Gordon, Blackfire and Scarecrow. The trailer teases all of these fascinating elements, though the focus is clearly on Jason Todd/Red Hood.

After a brief flashback to a young Dick Grayson, the trailer turns to the second Robin, Curran Walter’s Jason Todd. Shockingly, the trailer reveals Jason’s death at the hands of The Joker. Though the Jester Of Genocide is only seen from behind as he mercilessly beats Jason to death, there is no doubt that Gotham’s Clown Prince of crime is responsible for Jason’s descent.

Jay Lycurgo’s Tim Drake is seen briefly in civilian garb, where he hears the news of Jason’s death on the news. Following this and a few shots of the visibly distraught Titans, Iain Glen’s Bruce Wayne drops the crowbar that killed his son at the feet of Dick Grayson. Bruce tells Nightwing that he’s done with the cape and cowl, and implores Dick to “be a better Batman”.

Following this, the Titans make their move to Gotham, where Dick gets reacquainted with his old friend Barbara, who now runs the GCPD and ironically advises Dick against following in his father’s footsteps, Red Hood makes land in Gotham. With his father figure gone, Red Hood has returned to cleanse Gotham with fire, and to seek vengeance on his murderer.

Red Hood boldly declares that Gotham is his now, shortly before he’s seen engaged in combat with Nightwing, his older brother. Starfire’s new costume is displayed, then Raven, Superboy, Krypto, Hawk and Dove all show up briefly, violently kicking ass, in true Titans fashion.

TITANS SEASON THREE WILL BRING BACK DONNA TROY

How Jason Todd returns from the dead is currently unknown, putting him in the same category as Donna Troy/Wonder Girl, who makes a very brief appearance in the trailer. Her return to the show has been confirmed through social media posts and official Titans marketing, so her revival is not a question of “if”, but “how”. It would seem that Aqualad is the only Titan forced to stay six feet under.

The trailer comes to a close with narration by the new Scarecrow, a few action-packed shots, and a release date. Titans season three returns to HBO Max on August 12th, 2021. In less than a month, DC fans will finally see the classic storylines “A Death In The Family” and “Under The Red Hood” adapted to live-action for the very first time.
