The moment that Critters have been waiting for since the end of Campaign 2 is finally here! Critical Role has announced the premiere date of Campaign 3 and it is right around the corner. Critical Role Campaign 3 will premiere October 21, 2021 at 7pm on the Critical Role Twitch and the Critical Role YouTube channels. As always Twitch VOD will be available immediately after the live broadcast for subscribers and YouTube VOD will be available the following Monday at 12pm Pacific. Podcast episodes will continue to be available the following Thursday.
However, there will be some changes with this new campaign, some of which were revealed by Travis Willingham, Matt Mercer, and Marisha Ray in the State of the Role Campaign 3 Announcement video, while some were only hinted at by the trio.
CRITICAL ROLE NEW STATE OF THE ROLE VIDEO REVEALS EXCITING DETAILS ABOUT CAMPAIGN 3
Critical Role began pre-recording their episodes in Campaign 2 once the cast and crew returned from the unexpected hiatus that was taken due to the ongoing pandemic. Critical Role will continue to pre-record their episodes with Campaign 3 although they made it clear in the State of the Role video that the episodes will not be edited so fans will be able to enjoy all the chaos, hilarity, and emotional moments in each episode as they always have.
Critical Role is also making an adjustment to the schedule with Campaign 3. Critical Role will be taking the last Thursday of every month off from the main Campaign 3 story. The last Thursday of each month will either be used as a break for the cast and crew or for additional programming, with Marisha Ray teasing Critical Role “experimenting with new content and ideas” during this time. This also gives Critters who fall behind during Campaign 3 a chance to catch up which can seem like a daunting task. Although this will not be the case in October 2021 with episode 2 set to premiere October 28, 2021.
Matt Mercer and Marisha Ray teased that Campaign 3 will be a completely new experience for Critters. In the State of the Role video Marisha Ray shared, “We got a lot of fun surprises planned, and ultimately, we’re just excited to explore new ways to tell our story along with some new storytellers, so don’t be alarmed if, and when, we mix things up.” What exactly this means for the Campaign is still a mystery, but Matt Mercer did confirm on Twitter that he will still be the Game Master and the main cast will still be present.
While much of Campaign 3 is still a mystery, Matt Mercer did reveal that it will begin on the Exandria continent of Marquet. And according to critrole.com Campaign 3 will take place after the events of the 8 episode mini-campaign Exandria Unlimited. Exandria Unlimited takes place roughly 30 years after Campaign 1 and roughly 10 years after Campaign 2.
Before the new campaign Critical Role will be releasing a deep dive video into the history of Exandria so new Critters can learn all about the history of this world that has been created over the course of years and long-time Critters can get a bit of a refresher. Critical Role has also built a new set for Campaign 3, much to Travis’ excitement, and a behind the scenes video of the set’s creation will be available in the next few weeks. Marisha also revealed that Campaign 3 will have an after show coming in early 2022.
Critical Role has also partnered with Cinemark for an exciting new way for Critters to experience the premiere of Campaign 3. Critical Role begins the new Campaign later this month with tons of surprises in store. Critical Role will have more exciting news coming October 8 during their New York Comic Con The Legend Of Vox Machina panel where they will share “an ultra special sneak peek” of the highly anticipated animated series.
