Power Rangers Universe: Exciting First Look At The New Team

Hasbro has given fans their first look at the team for Power Rangers Universe.

Ranger fans have finally gotten their first look at the new team that will be appearing in the upcoming Power Rangers Universe comic-book series from Boom! Studios.

A few days ago The Illuminerdi reported that Power Rangers Universe would finally bring the suits from the 17th season of Super Sentai, Gosei Sentai Dairanger, into the Power Rangers franchise.

Aspects of Dairanger have been used in minor instances throughout the history of the franchise such as the mecha and White Ranger being featured in Season 2. The Dairangers also made minor appearances in the show’s 21st season, Super Megaforce. However, this will be the first time they will be featured front and center.

We also know that the series will focus on the mysterious backstory of the Phantom Ranger who was featured in Power Rangers Turbo and Power Rangers in Space. The Phantom Ranger will presumably team up with this new team at some point. He is also sporting a never-before-seen White version of his suit.

We also reported that Power Rangers Universe will feature a Power Rangers-exclusive Black Ranger be added to the team as there was no Black Ranger in Dairanger, the source material for the book.

The series is expected to take very little from the story of Dairanger as this new team is the children of the Morphin Masters and the mission is to save a mysterious figure they rescue from the Morphin Grid.

Anaylising The Power Rangers Universe Team

During the Power Rangers Fan First Friday, the only name that we got for any of the Rangers was Ori. Series writer Nicole Andelfinger used they/them pronouns when referring to the character so it’s possible that Ori could be the first non-binary character in Power Rangers history, which would be a huge step for the franchise.

We also saw that the Red Ranger of the Power Rangers Universe team will be female which diverges from Dairanger in which the Red Ranger was male. This is also a very welcome change as female Red Rangers are few and far between in Power Rangers.

Their outfits are also very reminiscent of their parents, the Morphin Masters. It will be interesting to see more information on the Morphin Master characters as after almost 30 years, we still know very little about these characters that are hugely important to Power Rangers lore.

It will also be interesting to see if they use any of the already used aspects of Dairangers such as the Zords and the White Ranger. It seems like they are going in a very different direction than Dairanger, it would be safe to say that the writers will probably try to avoid the Thunder Zords and the White Ranger. Especially since it seems that the Phantom Ranger will (sort of) be the White Ranger of this team/story.

Power Rangers Universe is expected to release in December 2021 and features Nicole Andelfinger as the writer for the series and Simone Ragazzoni serving as the lead artist. Andelfinger is new to Power Rangers, however, she is known for her works on comic-book versions of other established franchises such as Jim Henson’s Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Regular Show, Rugrats, and Steven Universe.
