A new synopsis for the Multiverse of Madness teases a new mysterious adversary for Doctor Strange.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is only just a few short months away and the rumor-mill is churning even faster than ever. A new synopsis for the film seems to be hinted at a new adversary for the former Sorcerer Supreme to take on.

The synopsis teases that the film will feature “mystical allies, both old and new”. It also mentions “mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities.” which is no secret considering the title.

In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

The film is already expected to be action-packed with multiple characters from older Marvel movies being rumored to make their multiversal returns in this film. One of those is Tobey Maguire who is rumored to once again reprise his role of Peter Parker / Spider-Man from the Sam Raimi trilogy. Fun fact Sam Raimi also happens to be directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness… hmm…

It’s hard to imagine this movie getting any crazier, but that just might happen with Strange’s new mysterious adversary.

Who Is the Mysterious Adversary in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?

So, the number one question becomes, who is this mysterious new adversary mentioned in the synopsis for the film? Well, there are a few candidates.

One of those is Shuma-Gorath who we saw in the trailer for the film. The character is described as “an ancient force of chaos, the immortal, nigh-invincible, and godlike ruler of nearly a hundred alternate universes, capable of energy projection, shapeshifting, teleportation, levitation, altering reality, and sympathetic magic, among many other feats.” The character seems cool, however, based on the trailer it seems that he will mostly just be some sort of monster who wreaks some havoc thanks to the film’s real threat.

Another major candidate could be the evil Doctor Strange we saw in the trailer. This character comes from an episode of What If…? where Strange is obsessed with preventing the death of his girlfriend, Christine. He eventually becomes so powerful that he finally succeeds in saving her but destroys her along with his entire universe in the process. The only reason why he may not be the adversary mentioned in the synopsis is that we’ve already seen him in the trailer, so it wouldn’t make much sense to leave it a mystery.

Lastly, we have Kang the Conqueror who was first introduced in the season finale of Loki. This would make a lot of sense as his variant was the one that Loki and Sylvie met at the end of time. He was also the one to warn them of the repercussions if they decided to break open the multiverse. This would make a lot of sense he seems to be the one that has been the most involved in multiversal affairs so far. The events of this film could even lead into Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania where we know for a fact that we will see Kang appear.

Overall, this film looks like it could become one of the biggest films set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. We cannot wait to see how all of this will pan out!
