Reports suggest Laura Donnelly's mysterious Werewolf By Night character may be Elsa Bloodstone.

Last year, Laura Donnelly was cast in a mysterious role for Marvel’s untitled Werewolf By Night Halloween Special on Disney Plus.

Now her role appears to be less mysterious, as it is being reported that she is playing a superhuman monster hunter. In fact, she is said to be none other than Elsa Bloodstone.

Deadline has reported that Laura Donnelly of The Nevers and Outlander fame would join Coco star Gael Garcia Bernal in the Werewolf By Night Halloween special. Her role was not disclosed at the time, but it was believed that she was potentially playing Nina Price, who is otherwise known as “Vampire by Night.” That belief was shared by many. However, it appears that may be nothing more than a popular opinion.

Our colleagues over at the Cosmic Circus seem to know the identity of Donnelly’s character as they revealed that she’s playing Elsa Bloodstone, one of Marvel’s resident experts in all things involving vampires, werewolves, or anything supernatural that would try to kill, possess or eat you.

You can consider her to be Marvel’s very own version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, except she’s not limited to vampires, also, she’s not blonde, at least not anymore. Ironically, Elsa Bloodstone’s creators Dan Abnett, and Andy Lanning claimed that they have never seen a single episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and were “determined to steer clear of Buffy at least while doing Bloodstone.”

Elsa Bloodstone made her debut in Bloodstone #1(October 2001). She’s the daughter of Elise and the immortal monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone. She inherited her father’s Bloodgem which bestows superhuman strength and immortality upon her. Like her father, she too is a monster hunter.

It’s worth mentioning that Elsa Bloodstone was an eighteen-year-old protagonist in the comics so most likely Laura Donelly would be playing an older, more experienced Bloodstone.

The development of MCU’s supernatural lore with multiple heroes like Blade, the Werewolf by Night, in addition to Doctor Strange, Scarlett Witch depending on her mood, Black Knight, Moon Knight, Ghost-Rider(possibly), and apparently Elsa Bloodstone support evidence of Marvel building towards a ‘Midnight Sons’ project. Man-Thing is also rumored to appear in the MCU sooner rather than later but that’s a story for another time.

Donnelly Is Far From Ever Being Done

Donelly is a fantastic actor who will undoubtedly bring more flavor to add to the MCU’s variety. People love her as Amalia True in HBO’s superhero period piece, The Nevers, and as Jenny Murray on Outlander. She is also known for her roles in the British series Britannia and The Fall, as well as the movies Tolkien and The Program.

Donnelly deservingly won an Olivier Award in 2018 for her performance in The Ferryman, and she starred alongside Hugh Jackman in the Broadway rendition of The River. In every single one of those roles lies the full capacity of her heart and soul, with that being said, we can expect to fall in love with her as Elsa Bloodstone.
