If there’s anything I could take away from shooting an Avatar movie with Jim, is the openness of my horizon. My perspective shifted. No’s don’t mean no to me. No’s mean I have to work harder to get around a problem. You know, the resiliency. The example of leadership. Just being on a set and watching how he would inspire everyone in their field, whether it’s engineers, whether it’s people in the art department, to do their best. It was just a fantastic experience. And to see that when things aren’t where they need to be, that everything in the power of the dynamic of this team is gonna fix it.

And do everything possible to make sure that everything goes right. And then to look at that screen at the end of a day and see the loops of scenes that were extracted in these kind of, like, not completely done yet, visuals. I realized I was part of something that’s extraordinary that’s never been done before. And every day felt that way. And so I’d have to say the experience of just being in a Jim Cameron movie [LAUGH] was extraordinary. There wasn’t a day where I wasn’t impressed by something new that I was learning.

The shift in perspective and confidence from working on this movie seems like a powerful take away for Michelle Rodriguez. She also talked about the amazing experience of seeing Avatar for the first time and what shines through is her pride in not just her work on the film, but James Cameron realizing his vision. James Cameron’s sci-fi fantasy is a visually stunning sci-fi fantasy that explores nature in a beautiful way. Michelle is clearly proud of not only her part in creating this beautiful world, but that Cameron was able to “quantify the unquantifiable.”

He pulled it off. Like a drop-mic moment. Because, for me, the whole thing was, how do you quantify the unquantifiable? Things like love. Things like connection to nature. Things like beauty. I knew it the moment that I saw Jim having a prolonged conversation about fauna and the color of it. And that’s when I was like, okay, this guy is not gonna settle in any way, shape or form when it comes to translating the beauty.

Because in that beauty is quantifying the love and connection to nature. And if he’s able to make this connection between beauty, Pandora, and nature, he’ll be able to make that connection with the human. You know? And so when I saw the movie, I was like, drop mic. He did it. [LAUGH] He freaking did it. Everything that he wrote went to the screen. And I’m like, okay, I get it now. That’s why he’s such a stickler for detail.

Avatar has the most successful box office of all time, so it would seem audiences agree with Michelle Rodriguez about James Cameron’s ability to show love and connection to nature in this unique sci-fi fantasy tale. It is amazing that what Michelle Rodriguez remembers most about seeing Avatar for the first time is how proud she was that James Cameron was able to accomplish his goals. Avatar is a stunning movie that truly needs to be experienced on the big screen and with the second film in the franchise coming out later this year, it is the perfect time for fans to revisit Pandora.
