A new rumor indicates that Sony and Marvel Studios are closing on a deal for Spider-Man 4 and more.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was the theatrical event of last year. The hype for every trailer and every new bit of information was immense and that was also visible through the film’s box office performance as it grossed more than $2 Billion at the global box office and instantly became one of the highest-grossing films of all time. It is beloved by audiences and critics alike as the 98% and 93% scores on Rotten Tomatoes respectively prove. The third entry in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy served as a beautiful love letter to the cinematic journey of the character and left things at a theoretically solid ending for the MCU’s Spidey.

But even before the film became such a box-office sensation Sony and Marvel made it pretty clear that they would like to continue making Spider-Man films with Tom Holland as the web-slinger front and center. It’s now been almost a year since No Way Home hit theatres and just a few months ago Sony re-released the film in theatres with some extra footage as the Spider-Man: No Way Home: The More Fun Stuff Version. But in regards to a continuation of the story both studios have been pretty quiet recently.
Now a new rumor suggests that they are currently finalizing a deal for Spider-Man 4 and more films.
SPIDER-MAN MIGHT BE SWINGING AGAIN SOON
Grace Randolph has recently shared via Twitter that “It seems Disney and Sony close to new Spider-Man deal”. While she isn’t the most reliable insider in the last few weeks, she has been correct a bunch of times, as she for example correctly predicted the release of the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special trailer and indicated that a DCEU actor is up for the Wonder Man role, which just went to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. He plays Black Manta in Aquaman.

Randolph continues her report with “They sign they can work on Tom Holland’s deal Spider-Man 4 and likely both The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.”
This all doesn’t seem too far-fetched as after No Way Home, the deal between Disney and Sony was over. Now that both sides agree they want to continue to work together a new deal must be made. We only haven’t heard about anything in a long time so the news that at least the studios are almost back together is exciting and a good sign for the future of Spider-Man in the MCU.
If everything works out Marvel and Sony can work on a deal with Tom Holland which would likely set him up for another Spider-Man trilogy as well as appearances in team-up films like The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
The timing of it all also lines up with a recent report by The Cosmic Circus who reported a few weeks ago that Sony is looking at a July 12, 2024 release for Spider-Man 4. If the studios can agree on a new deal and if Tom Holland is up to putting on the mask again, we could look at a production start in the summer of 2023. But for that to happen there needs to be a story in place and maybe some talks about potential directors, writers, and cast members.

If this report turns out to be true, we could get some clarification from the trades in the coming weeks and maybe get a better look at the bigger picture. But first and foremost it looks like Spidey’s future is looking bright and that is something to be excited about.
