Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - Marvel Studios

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, is releasing in cinemas. Early reactions have started coming in from the film’s French premiere, and more social media reactions are bound to occur as more journalists watch the movie before its May 5 release date. Billed as the final chapter in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, the movie will mark James Gunn’s last contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe before he crafts the DC Universe with the release of Creature Commandos and the upcoming Superman: Legacy, the latter of which he will direct.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

While speaking with a fan on Instagram (via ComicBookMovie.com), director James Gunn reveals how many post-credit scenes Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 will have. While there are historically two post-credit scenes in most MCU movies and television series, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 broke the mold by having seven (!!!) post-credits scenes peppered into the end credits sequence. It also brilliantly introduced audiences to Jeff Goldblum’s The Grandmaster before his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok through the end credits, as he is seen dancing during Guardians Inferno.

Gunn bluntly confirms that “There is not a post-credit scene,” but quickly follows up his response by stating that “There are two.” Of course, Gunn did not reveal the contents of those post-credits scenes, unlike Agatha: Coven of Chaos actress Patti LuPone spilling the beans on the contents of the entire show during her Beau is Afraid press tour. Even if this is his last tenure at Marvel, Gunn knows Kevin Feige is always watching.

With Gunn confirming that there are two post-credit scenes for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, we now know that, while some characters may bite the dust, some Guardians could return sometime in the MCU. The most plausible outcome seems to be Nova, or Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars, but you never know what Marvel has up their sleeve next as they build the next phase of the MCU, which will lead up to The Kang Dynasty.

Time will tell who will survive the Guardians of the Galaxy events, Vol. 3, and which characters will return in the MCU. Dave Bautista has already expressed that this will be his last performance as Drax, while Karen Gillan seemingly hinted at Vol. 3 being the last hurrah for Nebula as well. However, it’s clear that Marvel may not be done with the Guardians in some capacity and could create a “new” Guardians of the Galaxy by the time this movie ends. Audiences will soon know the fate of the Guardians as the film approaches its theatrical release date two weeks from now!

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 releases in theatres on May 5.
