Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. has announced its first downloadable content (DLC) for SWORD ART ONLINE Last Recollection which is set to release worldwide to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on January 25. Players will be able to join Kirito alongside the legendary heroines of SWORD ART ONLINE, such as Asuna, Lisbeth, Silica, Sinon, and many others in Ritual of Bond Volume 1.

While investigating a mysterious dungeon that has appeared under the Obsidia Castle Town, Kirito and his friends face a trial that can only be challenged in pairs. You can experience the heartfelt journey of Kirito and his partner as they face the Ritual of Bonds hands in hand in this new DLC game.

A NEW STORY UNFOLDS

Based on SWORD ART ONLINE‘s War of Underworld anime arc, this new adventurous story includes tough challenges that the beloved hero Kirito and his new friends have to face. In SWORD ART ONLINE Last Recollection, players will unmask the Dark Knight and find out if Kirito and the crew will survive the relentless battle against the forces of the Dark Territory. This new original storyline explores what would have happened if Kirito, Eugeo, and their allies hadn’t met their tragic end in The War of the Underworld.

SWORD ART ONLINE first began in 2009 as a Japanese light novel series that was written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. It takes place in the 2020s and focuses on Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki as they play through various virtual reality MMORPG worlds. The series has produced twelve manga adaptations published by ASCII Media Works.

Yen Press licensed the novels and the manga adaptations for release in North America. An anime television series was later adapted and produced by A-1 Pictures and it aired in Japan between July and December 2012 with a television film Sword Art Online: Extra Edition airing on December 31, 2013.

The series has received widespread commercial success with the light novels having over 30 million copies sold worldwide. The anime series has received mixed to positive reviews while the animation, musical score, and exploration of the psychological aspects of virtual reality were praised. When it came to the pacing and writing of the anime series, it did receive some criticism.
