Zoe Kravitz will be the new Selina Kyle in the Matt Reeves directed The Batman movie, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight.
In a recent interview with Variety, the latest Catwoman shared the first experience of seeing herself in the role and talked about why her co-star Pattinson is the perfect choice to play the caped crusader. The actress also recalled the support she got from former Catwoman actors.
Due to the global pandemic, the United Kingdom-located production for The Batman was halted in March, and then in April the release date of the movie was pushed from June 25, 2021 to October 1, 2021. Since the abruption of the movie Kravitz and most of the crew are living in London.
Zoe Kravitz Is Thrilled With The Support She’s Received
While the movie is gearing up to resume its filming as soon as possible, Kravitz was recently asked what the experience of seeing herself in the costume for the first time was like. She said, “It’s cool. I can’t say it wasn’t cool, but I’ve been really trying to not think too much about just what that character means to everybody else. Just because it can be distracting in the wrong way, especially when you’re trying to become someone else.”
Also, she talked about the intimidating effect that comes with playing an iconic role:
“When the announcement came out that I had gotten this role, my phone rang more than it has ever. More than my birthday, more than my wedding, more than anything. So I felt that immediate pressure. The script is phenomenal. The story’s really strong. I feel very clear on who Selena is and what she wants, and I’m trying to stay more focused on that.”
If the production had not been halted, we would have gotten a first look at Kravitz in Catwoman suit by now. Everyone is pretty excited about seeing the new interpretation of Batman by Pattinson and what Matt Reeves is going to bring to the table through the detective noir style story. According to Kravitz, her co-star Pattinson is the perfect choice to play Bruce Wayne in Reeves’ movie. She said “[Robert] started out as this kind of teen pop sensation, and then I think we all kind of saw through his work that there was a lot more going on. He’s a really interesting artist, and that is very much Batman in a way.”
“We have the illusion of Bruce Wayne, and then we have Batman in the shadows that has a lot more complicated things going on. So just in that, I think he’s perfect for this role. He can relate in that way, and he looks good in the suit, man. He looks good in the suit. That’s a good jaw line.”
And continued by praising Robert “But he’s just a great actor and he brings so much to everything he does. I think that it’s a really hard role because people are expecting a lot. Also it’s restricting in a lot of ways. You’re wearing the suit, and you can’t see their eyes, and you can only move in a certain way. So you have to get really creative in terms of how can you portray a multi-dimensional character? He’s way up for the challenge and has really interesting ideas already. I think he’s perfect, perfect casting.”
Zoe Kravitz is a great actress and she proved her talent in various movie and TV roles. But most of her roles in movies have been supporting roles and playing Catwoman will further increase her stardom. In the interview, Zoe Kravitz talked about the support she got from Batman Returns star Michelle Pfeiffer. There are more than one actress who has dealt with this iconic role before and knowing that they all supported and encouraged the new lady who is stepping into those shoes, is uplifting and actually cool to hear.
Kravitz recalled:
“I spoke to Michelle [Pfeiffer]. We sat at the same table at the Golden Globes, and I’ve met her a bunch over the years because of David E. Kelley. She’d always been so nice. I had just gotten cast so I was really nervous to be around her, and she was so sweet. She just gave me a big hug and said, ‘You’re going to be great.’ That was really just amazing.”
She also said that “Both Halle [Berry] and Anne [Hathaway] were really sweet on Instagram and Twitter. [They] sent really sweet, encouraging messages when that was announced. So I feel supported by my girls.”
We previously got a first look at Pattinson as Batman and first look at Batmobile and Batcycle. Apart from that, not much is revealed about the movie. Maybe we will get a chance to hear more about this movie and get the first look image of the new Catwoman suit and other characters during the global DC Fandom event on August 22.
The Batman also stars Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Pal Dano as The Riddler, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, Con O’Neill as Mackenzie Bock, Gil Perez-Abraham, Charlie Carver, and Max Carver.
