Karl Urban is no stranger to major film franchises having played Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the recent Star Trek films, Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok, and now he’s even added Star Wars to the list. Now, don’t be too hard on yourself if you didn’t spot him in the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga. You won’t see Karl Urban’s face in The Rise of Skywalker, but you can hear his voice.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Karl Urban talked about fulfilling a lifelong dream on the set of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker,
“I had the good fortune to go and visit J.J. Abrams while he was shooting The Rise of Skywalker. While I was there, he put me in a Stormtrooper uniform and we had a really fun day on set. It’s been one of my life-long goals to be a Stormtrooper so I can tick that off now.”
Karl Urban’s Stormtrooper can be seen when the Knights of Ren are first introduced to the audience. Two Stormtroopers watch as Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren walk by, and one identifies the group for the audience when he says “Knights of Ren.” The Stormtrooper who says that is Karl Urban and if you watch you can hear him actually say the line.

Donning the infamous uniform and getting to watch as Kylo Ren and his knights walk by had to be a thrill, especially given it seems like it was a surprise. Karl Urban has worked with J.J. Abrams in the past before, so it isn’t a huge shock that he would want to visit Abram’s set to see a large chapter of the Star Wars story come to a close. Being able to check playing a Stormtrooper off the list of roles to play, is a great bonus as well.
KARL URBAN IS NOT THE ONLY CAMEO IN THE STAR WARS SEQUELS
The Star Wars sequels have had a number of cameos including Daniel Craig in The Force Awakens and Tom Hardy in The Last Jedi, both playing Stormtroopers. Although Hardy’s scene was cut, fans can see his appearance in The Last Jedi deleted scenes. Mark Hamill has recently revealed that he too has had cameos in the sequels, Solo, Rogue One, and the first season of The Mandalorian.
The Rise of Skywalker is full of cameos including not only Mark Hamill and Karl Urban, but Denis Lawson who returned as Wedge Antilles, Luke Skywalker’s friend and Rebel pilot from the original trilogy. And a whole slew of actors and actresses who have voiced or played Jedi lent their voices to The Rise of Skywalker including Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Alec Guinness, Ashley Eckstein, Frank Oz and more.
