Hard to believe it’s almost been two years since the series finale of Game of Thrones after eight seasons. Even though the show’s final season left many fans disappointed, it was one of the most successful show of the 2010s and everyone couldn’t stop talking about it. Now, HBO is looking to fill the void and it currently has a prequel series in production called House of the Dragon, which is set to release sometime in 2022. However, the network isn’t only interested with one spin-off, but wants to expand the world of Westeros even more.
3 Game of Thrones Spin-Offs On The Way
According to an exclusive with Deadline, HBO is currently developing three more spin-offs that are set to be prequels and are titled as 9 Voyages or Sea Snake, Flea Bottom, and 10,000 Ships. Out of the three projects, Sea Snake appears to have their creative team already on board which includes The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller and George R.R. Martin as well. At the moment, Flea Bottom and 10,000 Ships still do not have writers attached for the upcoming prequels.
The first series, Sea Snake aka 9 Voyages, will follow the adventures of Lord Corlys Velaryon who went on great sea voyages aboard the Sea Snake ship. Velaryon. He’s known as the head of house Velaryon and husband of Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. Corlys earned the nickname Sea Snake from his voyages to places such as Dragonstone, Pentos and Tyrosh. According to the lore of Westeros, he is considered to be the most famed adventure to have ever lived. He was able reach the fabled lands known as Yi Ti and Leng, where he was able to double his wealth to the point of overtaking the Lannisters wealth and had the largest navy in the world at his disposable. Lord Velaryon will be making his debut in House of the Dragon being played by Steve Toussaint.
Flea Bottom is set to bring us back to King’s Landing, taking place in the poorest slum district, which is described as maze-like, due to its narrow streets and dark alleys filled with tanneries, brothels, and ale houses. Not much else is known about the story but it will be interesting to see how life is portrayed in King’s Landing. Especially since we only saw a glimpse during the first four seasons of Game of Thrones, through the eyes of characters such as Ser Davos Seaworth and Gendry.
Lastly, 10,000 Ships will center around a warrior queen known as Princess Nymeria and the surviving members of the Rhoynars, who travelled to Essos to Dorne after following their defeat at the hands of the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War. This migration took place around 1,000 years before the events in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels. You may recognize the name Nymeria since that is the name Arya Stark gave to her direwolf.

It’s worth noting that these three Game of Thrones spin-offs are very early in their development and are subject to change or cancellation over time. However, it goes to show that HBO is doubling down on expanding the world of Westeros and recreating the success that Game of Thrones garnered. Only time will tell how well these spin-offs will be received, but with Martin’s fingerprints all over it, there is no doubt the universe of Game of Thrones can be popular once again.
