Showtime is interested in Florence Pugh to play one of the leads in the upcoming series Three Women based on Lisa Taddoe’s best seller.
In 2019 Lisa Taddoe’s, author and journalist, debut book, Three Women, was released and skyrocketed to the top of the New York Times non-fiction best sellers list. Taddoe spent eight years and crossed the United States six times to write this book, finding three women to feature as her subjects.
Taddoe took an in depth look at these women’s desires and sex lives even moving to their towns to better understand and immerse herself into their lives. Three Women not only debuted at number one on the New York Times non-fiction best sellers list, but was at the center of an intense bidding war which eventually landed it at Showtime with a series commitment.
Three Women tells the true story of three women who suffer backlash, private and public, for their sexual desires. The series centers on Lina a mother living in suburban Indiana in a passionless marriage who rekindles a romance with her high school sweetheart, Maggie a student in North Dakota who faces intense scrutiny and backlash after reporting her married English teacher of an inappropriate relationship, Sloane an entrepreneur in the Northeast who has a committed open relationship with her husband that is threatened by two new strangers, and Gia, based on Taddoe herself, a writer grieving the loss of her family who persuades these three woman to share their stories and is forever changed by her relationship with them.
In the last two weeks, two of the four leads have been announced. Deadline broke the news that Shailene Woodley had been cast as Gia who is based on writer Lisa Taddoe herself. EVP of Scripted Programming for Showtime Networks told Deadline,

“Shailene Woodley is an undeniable powerhouse who never fails to give an unflinchingly honest performance,” said Amy Israel, EVP, Scripted Programming, Showtime Networks. “We are beyond thrilled that she will be at the forefront of this electrifying show. Three Women promises to be a riveting and immersive exploration of female desire, told by women in charge of their own narratives. Lisa Taddeo and Laura Eason’s adaptation crackles with emotion and edge and, coupled with Louise Friedberg’s exceptional direction, this Showtime series promises to be everyone’s next obsession.”
Dewanda Wise has also joined the cast of Three Women as Sloane who is described as “a glamorous entrepreneur in a committed open marriage until two sexy new strangers threaten their aspirational love story.” With two of the four roles cast fans of the book are eagerly awaiting who will take on the role of Lina and the challenging role of Maggie.
We at The Illuminerdi have been digging into Three Women and have discovered who Showtime is interested in for Maggie.
SHOWTIME INTERESTED IN FLORENCE PUGH FOR THREE WOMEN
According to our sources Showtime’s Three Women is looking at Florence Pugh to take on the intense and complex role of Maggie, the North Dakota student who accuses her married English teacher of pursuing an inappropriate relationship and faces severe backlash. Florence Pugh has played a range of different characters in many films including Midsommar, Little Women, and most recently Black Widow.
Pugh would be an excellent addition to this series and given her experience she would surely bring a vulnerability, strength, and determination to this complex role. Given that each of these characters is based on a real person they need to be handled well, but Maggie is one that will be especially important to represent responsibly and authentically. Florence Pugh seems up to the task should she take on the role.
Three Women is being adapted by author Lisa Taddeo herself who will also serve as executive producer alongside showrunner Laura Eason, Kathy Ciric, and Emmy Rossum. Louise Friedberg is attached to direct and executive producer the first two episodes of Three Women.
