Thor: Love and Thunder is quickly becoming one of the largest scale films in all of Phase 4 for Marvel Studios. Chris Hemsworth’s fourth solo adventure in the MCU will not only bring the returns of Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and, more surprisingly, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor, but Chris Pratt will also come along for the ride as Star-Lord.
No story details have been revealed about this new film as of yet, outside of Jane Foster finding herself worthy of wielding Mjolnir. However, with so much star power involved, things are about to get real crazy real fast. Rumors have already circulated that this could be close to an Avengers-level movie, and fans are dying to learn more as soon as possible.
Actors like Hemsworth and Christian Bale have arrived in Australia to begin filming the fourth Thor movie, as has director/actor Taika Waititi. News has also broken on someone with whom Waititi was spotted that is raising some eyebrows for potential casting news in the near future.
Idris Elba Soaking Up Love and Thunder Down Under
Taika Waititi recently posted a picture of himself with MCU actor Idris Elba visiting the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team. This is fueling speculation that Elba will be reprising the role of Heimdall in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
If this speculation becomes a reality, it would certainly mean some major plot events coming to fruition in this new solo movie. We reported on a casting call earlier this year that could potentially be for a younger Heimdall, which could gain even more credence should Idris Elba be announced to reprise the role once again.
Even though this would mark Idris Elba’s sixth appearance as Heimdall in the MCU, this would be the biggest one in a while considering he was killed by Thanos in the first few minutes of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. It will likely be a while before any concrete news comes on this casting, but it’s certainly driving conversations about this potential return throughout the MCU fan base.
Thor: Love and Thunder is prepping to shoot in Australia in January 2021 with plans to release in theaters on February 11, 2021.
