National Treasure, the upcoming Disney+ series, has cast emerging young actress Lisette Alexis as the lead.
Disney is going to restart its treasure-hunting days as the studio is bringing back the popular National Treasure franchise. While the films did not achieve critical acclaim, they bought over $800 million globally and became classic hits. It was announced for a while now that the fan-favorite franchise is returning to the big screen as well as to the small screen.

In early 2020 it was revealed that a third National Treasure film was in development with Chris Bremner hired to write the script. Shortly, after that franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer stated that all of the original cast from the previous films will reprise their respective roles. And he also announced a new series for Disney+ with a younger cast. Now we got an update on the series.
Welcome To The Treasure Hunt, Lisette Alexis
Deadline reports that young actress Lisette Alexis (Total Eclipse) has landed the lead in the series. The pilot episode will be directed by Mira Nair. The show centers on Jess Morales (Lisette Alexis), a Latina whose brilliant and resourceful mind loves a good mystery.
The new series will not follow the franchise lead’s Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, and Justin Bartha but rather serve as an expansion of the film franchise told from the point of view of a young heroine who is brilliant, resourceful, and always on the search for a mystery. Jess Morales (Alexis), a 20-year old ‘DREAMer’, is on a search for answers about her family, embarking on a brand new adventure with the help of her friends to save a lost Pan-American treasure.
Over the course of the show, with her natural talent for solving puzzles, Jess begins an adventure of a lifetime to uncover her own buried history, as well as the truth about her parents and her connection to the long-lost treasure.
No other details about the show have been released, other than it serving as the passing of the proverbial torch from films’ protagonist Benjamin Gates (Cage) to Lisette Alexis’s Jess. Since Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, writers of the original films, are back for this series this can be a worthy expansion of the franchise. But it is unclear if any of the film cast will appear in the show. It will definitely be appealing for the fans if this series has a profound connection to the films.
The National Treasure series will be Lisette Alexis’ first lead role and third major screen credit, after starring in Total Eclipse (2019) series, this year’s indie horror film, We Need to Do Something which is a Tribeca Film Festival selection.
The series is executive produced by the films’ producer Bruckheimer, films director Jon Turteltaub, and the Wibberleys. Rick Muirragui (Suits) also serves as a writer on the show, and executive produces alongside Jerry Bruckheimer Television’s Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed. Nair is executive producing the pilot. Production is expected to begin in early 2022. No release date for the series has been announced.
