This week Kevin Fenix, one of our editors, Caitlin Tyrrell, one of our journalists and features manager, and Jezzer, of The Illuminerdi’s Ranger Wrap Up, are diving into the hilarity and meta craziness of Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers. Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers takes the famed chipmunks and their investigative team from the beloved 90s Disney animated series on a whole new kind of adventure with a fun meta twist full of wild and unexpected cameos that include characters from numerous different companies, and even new life for Ugly Sonic and his terrifying human teeth.

We're Always Watching

In this episode of We’re Always Watching we discuss the new Disney Plus live-action animation hybrid which features CGI, 2D, and even Claymation. Kevin, Caitlin, and Jezzer talk about the craziest cameos, how shockingly real certain elements of Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers is, and the surprising darkness within the film’s story. With many, including our Watchers, comparing Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers to the famed live-action animation hybrid Who Framed Roger Rabbit the film has an impressive legacy to meet.

The Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers animated series originally aired from 1989 – 1990, but was syndicated and aired for over a decade and was a key part of the beloved Disney Afternoon. The entire series is available to watch on Disney Plus now. The Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers film takes a meta approach to a sequel not set within the world of the Rescue Rangers series. Instead, the film includes Chip, Dale, and the rest of their crew as actors within the television series, Rescue Rangers. Audiences don’t need to watch the animated series to understand the movie unless, of course, they want to see more wacky adventures featuring Disney’s famous chipmunk duo.
