Namor is about to make a splash in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In one of Marvel Studios’ worst-kept secrets, Tenoch Huerta will soon be making his MCU debut as Namor the Sub-Mariner in Black Panther 2, officially titled Black Panther Wakanda Forever. The Narcos: Mexico actor joined the sequel’s cast as the villain back in November 2020, and The Illuminerdi revealed he would be playing Namor in June of 2021.

Marvel Studios has yet to confirm Huerta’s involvement in the sequel or who the actor is playing; however, confirmation has come from another source.

In an incredible piece with Vice, Tenoch Huerta sat down to talk about racism against Hispanic people in and out of his home country of Mexico. The article references the actor’s upcoming role in Black Panther 2 multiple times, including being titled, “New ‘Black Panther’ Star Is Calling Out Mexico for Its Racism.”

The article focuses a lot on Huerta’s impressive resume and how, even though fame has elevated his style of living, Huerta still fights and speaks out against social injustices. His next role as Namor will be a massive step forward for his career, giving the actor a larger platform to champion equality.

The article states:

But Huerta—who is about to break even badder as the antihero “Namor the Sub-Mariner” in Marvel’s much-anticipated Black Panther sequel—still has the devil inside.

Huerta’s upcoming role as Namor in Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever marks a huge jump in his career. The quick-tempered mutant spawn of a human sea captain and the princess of an undersea kingdom, Namor is quick to fight other heroes in his quest to protect his homeland. Huerta has been learning a Mayan language for the role and spent months filming in Atlanta. (Marvel hasn’t confirmed Huerta’s casting in the movie, which is expected to be released in November, and a press aide accompanied the actor to make sure he didn’t talk about it.)

Given the secrecy that surrounds MCU roles, it’s a surprising turn of events for Huerta’s role to be all but confirmed through this article. It also confirms previous reports that Marvel Studios was putting a Mayan spin on the character’s origin.
