The Marvels Producer Reveals Spoiler That Directly Connects Upcoming Blockbuster To Avengers 5 & 6

The Marvels' cosmic subplot may open possibilities that directly have implications for Avengers: Secret Wars.

The Marvels is set to have a new cosmic telling that will take MCU fans deep into space – an adventure that will mark a Marvel reunion within the continuity. The setup for The Marvels appeared in the mid-credits scene of last year’s Ms. Marvel’s finale. After coming out to her parents and friends as the titular superheroine and accepting her new life, Kamala Khan’s mystique bangle sends her through a portal somewhere else, while Carol Danvers takes her place in her bedroom. The scene obviously was meant to lead directly into The Marvels, but we didn’t know exactly how.

The trailers revealed that somehow, the three cosmic heroines of the MCU, Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel, and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau – have suddenly begun to exchange places every time they use their powers. The Marvels is supposed to have these three team up, figure out this anomaly, and defeat the antagonist Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton).

THE MARVELS PRODUCER REVEALS PLOT POINTS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MCU

In an interview with Total Film, the film’s executive producer, Mary Livanos, has explained some plot points that might hint at what we can expect from the movies. In Ms. Marvel, Kamala’s bangle’s ancient history hinted at a complex past of mystic forces with which Kamala’s great-grandmother has been involved.

It turns out, the bangle is what leads to The Marvels. According to Livanos, the movie features Dar-Benn in possession of a second bangle that is supposedly paired with that of Kamala’s. The anomaly causes Kamala’s bangle to create a hole somewhere else, leading the three protagonists to switch places – thus, setting up the film’s events and a rivalry against Dar-Benn.

In Ms. Marvel, we learned that the bangle, paired with some other form of power, can force a temporary hole in space and time to lead to somewhere else. With the power of both bangles, more is definitely possible. And we see the culmination of that over the course of this movie. It definitely leads to plentiful opportunities for the future of the MCU, whatever the Avengers and Secret Wars teams may want to do with them.

As for how Dar-Benn has the bangle and what she plans to do with it, it is something that we will have to wait and watch with the movie. The film’s director, Nia DaCosta, added during the interview on Dar-Benn, “You’ll get enough of the story of how and why Dar-Benn has acquired the bangle.”

WILL THE MARVELS TIE INTO AVENGERS 5 & 6?

Livanos’ comment about the film’s cosmic storyline intertwining with Avengers movies hype up the project. The Marvels indeed will tie in with Avengers, given the two culminating films will eventually have every superhero collaborate to defeat the biggest threat to the multiverse.

Ms. Marvel - Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan

However, it may not necessarily directly affect The Kang Dynasty and the Secret Wars. The one thing that we may look out for in The Marvels is a hint at Kamala Khan’s connections to the mutants, which may leave us with something related to X-Men.

MCU does tend to plant seeds of final segments of the continuity in each film; hence, The Marvels may have a hint or two or a post-credits to lead into Avengers, but a direct continuation isn’t guaranteed. But we expect the film to feature a cameo or two from characters we will also see in the franchise’s future.

The Marvels is currently scheduled for a November 10 theatrical release date. It will be hitting theaters only one week after Dune Part 2. While there has been talk of Disney possibly delaying the film, it’s still slated for the November release.
