New Doctor Strange 3 Plot Leak Reveals Devastating Connections To Avengers: Secret Wars

Is Stephen Strange a more significant threat to the Multiverse than Kang the Conqueror in Doctor Strange 3?
Doctor Strange 3

Doctor Strange will play a significant role in Avengers: Secret Wars. While we know that Secret Wars will be the ultimate Endgame-esque culmination of The Multiverse Saga. Avengers will be battling several incursions as portals to other dimensions bleed open like open nerves, bringing in the biggest threats to the Earth’s mightiest. And while Kang is the big baddie of MCU’s second saga, Doctor Strange’s ongoing fate in Doctor Strange 3 may have a massive implication for both Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is traversing much ground (and space). Loki picks up on Kang’s dangers to the multiverse in Season 2. Deadpool 3 will deal with mutant mayhem. Blade will take us further into the dark corners of the MCU after Werewolf By Night. And The Marvels is currently taking up on deep space concerns. Amid all this, Kang the Conqueror is planning a multiversal war that shall shake up the laws of the space-time continuum. And no one has touched upon this impending threat yet, not even Ant-Man in Quantumania, for that matter.

The only person who has traversed the multiverse is Stephen Strange, who is on an inter-dimensional mission to stop an incursion. At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But where is he?

Doctor Strange Seeks Out Incursions in Doctor Strange 3

At the end of Multiverse of Madness, Strange joins Clea (Charlize Theron) on a quest to curb an incursion. For the uninitiated, incursion occurs when two realities or alternate dimensions collide, destroying both. A report by The Cosmic Circus suggests that this ending directly leads into Doctor Strange 3. The supposed plot details of the third Doctor Strange film reveal that the film will be based on the comic book issue Time Runs Out. The actual comic book series features Avengers still under a civil war while a bigger threat looms on Earth. This aspect of the comics has previously been adapted into Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, with Thanos introduced as the ultimate threat.

However, in the comics, the Avengers are sought out by several organizations across the multiverse to figure out what is causing all the realities to succumb to decay slowly. Joined by one such organization called The Black Priests, Strange figures out that the true villains are Beyonders, a species that exists out of time. With this reveal, the ending of Time Runs Out leads to the Secret Wars storyline. Strange’s mission to find the truth behind the multiverse’s decay could be the subject of Doctor Strange 3.

Clea and Stephen Strange Must Curb an Incursion

In Doctor Strange 3, Clea and Stephen work for The Black Priests to curb an incursion that Strange himself may have started. In Multiverse of Madness, Strange access the Darkhold to defeat Wanda but is affected by the book’s after-effects, as indicated by the third eye on Strange’s forehead at the movie’s end. Clea then persuades him to join her on an inter-dimensional quest. The film also revealed that Strange is the biggest threat to the multiverse as Earth 838’s variant of the Sorcerer Supreme brought doom to an entire reality.

If Doctor Strange 3 really adapts Time Runs Out, we may be taken further into the mystery of Strange’s role in the multiverse’s decay. And Strange could be an absolute reason or a common link to all the multiversal incursions, regardless of which variant of the character causes them. The inter-connection seems more plausible given that Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is penning Secret Wars.

Doctor Strange 3’s Place in the MCU

If the reports are accurate, Doctor Strange 3 will release before Secret Wars, thus acting as an aperitif to the latter. There is a whole slate of Phase Six where the film could fit. It would have been a challenging milestone to achieve. But now that Secret Wars is pushed to 2027, Marvel Studios has plenty of time to figure out the film’s place in the MCU timeline.
