AMC is continuing to build out their franchises with popular IPs with the upcoming series based on Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire. Interview With The Vampire is the first series to debut from the acquisition of the rights to Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels and The Lives of Mayfair Witches novels.
As part of Rolin Jones overall deal with AMC Studios, he will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on Interview With The Vampire. Mark Johnson will serve as executive producer on Interview With The Vampire as part of his own overall deal with AMC Studios. Anne Rice and her son Christopher Rice are also a part of the upcoming series serving as non-writing executive producers.
We here at The Illuminerdi revealed details about AMC’s Interview With The Vampire earlier this year including character descriptions for lead characters Louis de Pointe du Lac and Daniel Molloy. We also revealed that Interview With The Vampire will be 8 one-hour episodes, will film in New Orleans, Paris, and Eastern Europe, and that the series will follow Molloy as he interviews Louis for a second time which is a new take or perhaps continuation of the story from the novel.

We here at The Illuminerdi have continued to dig for more details about this highly anticipated new series and are excited to share a number of new character descriptions including fan favorite the vampire Lestat.
NEW INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Lestat du Lioncourt is one of the leads of Interview With The Vamprie Caucasian in his 20s-30s. Lestat is a vampire and captivating presence who attracts appreciation and attention of men and women alike. Completely at ease with himself, Lestat draws people to him and obtains respect through his charm, intelligence, and sexual magnetism.
Lestat is insistent that he gets what he wants and when facing rejection, petulance can quickly turn to ruthless rage which causes frenzied acts of horrifically brutal violence. Lestat also has mind control abilities. Lestat initially infuriates Louis, but this soon turns to fascination which leads Louis to question his religion and sexuality. Lestat entering Louis’ life leads to the ruin of his close relationships with his family.

Not only is Lestat a lead role in Interview With The Vampire, it looks like the role will also require options for 5 other potential series. This isn’t entirely shocking given the fact that AMC is looking to build a universe around Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels with Interview With The Vampire being the first. Lestat is a key character in a number of other novels from the franchise, so his involvement in other series makes sense.
Louis De Pointe Du Lac is one of the other leads in Interview With The Vampire that will also require options for another potential series and will be expected to appear in 2 episodes in further series, subject to the actor’s availability.
Paul de Pointe du Lac is described as a series regular, Black in his 20s-30s, he is Louis’ brother. Paul is Catholic and his religious beliefs cause tension and resentment between the brothers although they do love each other. Paul was at one point committed to a “madhouse” and in the series he falls to his death from a rooftop, although whether or not this was suicide remains to be seen.
Florence de Pointe du Lac is a series regular, Black in her 50s, she is Louis’ widowed mother. Florence has a creole accent and a commanding presence. She does her best to turn a blind eye to Louis’ business and how he supports her. Although the family has always been close, she does blame Louis for his brother Paul’s death which causes irreparable damage to their relationship.
Grace de Pointe du Lac is a recurring character, Black and in her 20s, she is Louis’ younger sister. Described as calm with a commanding presence Grace is betrothed to be married to Levi.
Levi is a recurring character in his 20s-30s described as a “true gentleman”, he is the fiancé and later husband of Louis’ sister Grace. Levi is sure to show respect to the entire family.
Oncle Vervain is a recurring character in his 30s-40s and described as a Voodoo Priest who seems to have otherworldly instruments and eccentricities. He is able to use spells, at one point helping Louis to win at poker, although the true capacity of his powers remains to be seen.
Alderman Fenwick is a recurring character in his 40s-50s and described as ill-mannered, rude, and irksome, an elected local official as well as a drunk. Fenwick runs in the same circles as Louis and is a constant fixture at Louis’ club always with different women and the cause of trouble.
Finn O’Shea is a recurring character in his 30s-50s described a Louis’ lackey, the pair get along well and Finn protects Louis. Finn is an overweight bouncer at a club in New Orleans. Finn is likely a bouncer at Louis’ club given how connected the pair are and that Finn is described as Louis’ lackey.
Bricktop Williams is a recurring character in her 20s-30s, a curvy Haitian woman and Louis’ best earner at his brothel which is no surprise with how smooth she is with customers. Bricktop is serene, cool, and composed and knows how to communicate with her customers.
Rashid is a recurring character in his 20s-30s described as Louis’ companion in present day, he is primarily in the background of Louis’ mansion with his face in his tablet.
It looks like AMC’s Interview With The Vampire will be a very different interpretation than the original novel. Interview With The Vampire will focus on Louis’ family like never before and his enterprises as a brothel or club owner seems to be a central piece of the story. Lestat’s entrance into Louis’ life seems to be the catalyst that will turn everything upside down which should be compelling to watch. Interview With The Vampire may not be an exact adaptation of the books, but it does look like an interesting story that will likely stay true to the heart of the novel, namely the relationship between Louis and Lestat.
How these characters play into the series and how Interview With The Vampire grows should be fascinating especially given that this is the first step in what AMC hopes to be a sprawling and long lasting franchise like The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad. Interview With The Vampire is scheduled to begin production this November and eyeing a 2022 debut.
