Kai Moya Reveals His First Introduction To Power Rangers Was SPD: Exclusive Interview

The Illuminerdi had the chance to sit down with Kai Moya, who plays Ollie the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers Dino Fury, to answer how he was introduced to the franchise.

Recently The Illuminerdi had the chance to sit down with Kai Moya, who plays Ollie the Blue Ranger in the currently airing Power Rangers Dino Fury.

Here Moya answered the age-old question, “What was your introduction to Power Rangers?”

KAI MOYA’S FIRST EXPOSURE TO POWER RANGERS

The Illuminerdi: Absolutely. Now, what was your first introduction of Power Rangers, and what season made you discover the franchise?
Kai Moya: Okay, so my first introduction was my uncle. He’s still a Power Ranger fan today, actually, and so he used to watch it. I lived with him for a period of time, and so he used to watch. He was into S.P.D.
The Illuminerdi: Yes!
Kai Moya: When he was a young kid, he was watching that, and so I remember sitting down next to him, and I was like, “What is this?” And then it would be, ” Power Rangers S.P.D.!” I was like, “Oh yeah, this is great!” That was my first intro to Power Rangers.

Airing in 2005 Power Rangers S.P.D. (short for Space Patrol Delta) was the 13th season of the Power Rangers franchise that has become a huge fan favorite in the years since it premiered. Set in the not to distant future of 2025 the season follows the secondary Ranger team of B-Squad police cadets as they are promoted to Earth’s protectors following the disappearance of their superiors the A-Squad.

The season was also the first to feature actor Kelson Henderson in a major role as the character Boom. Kelson would later work with Kai Moya in Power Rangers Dino Fury when he reprised another Ranger role of his, Mick, from Power Rangers Ninja Steel.

Dino Fury has had some major connections to multiple Ranger seasons so far during it’s run including lore behind the Morphin Masters from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, explanations for certain powerful items used by the teams of Dino Thunder and Dino Charge, as well as brining back the iconic villain Lord Zedd into the series. So far S.P.D. hasn’t been specifically referenced however with Kelson already making an appearance and multiple seasons already mentioned it could just be a matter of time. Though with S.P.D. being set in the future of the Power Rangers timeline they also may choose to not mention it.

Besides Kelson will there be any other connections to S.P.D. coming up during the rest of Dino Fury yet to air? Only time will tell when Part 2 of Power Rangers Dino Fury comes to Netflix later this Fall.
