Jamie Foxx is set to let the sparks fly as Electro once again in Spider-Man 3.
It seems only fitting that with Marvel Studios back in action, fans are getting new and exciting breaking stories nearly every single day. As the studio ramps up the hype for the beginning of Phase 4, the last couple weeks alone have brought the first new trailer in six months with WandaVision and announcements revealing the leading actresses for both She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel.
The theatrical debut of Phase 4 won’t be arriving until next May. While the Disney+ era will start by the end of 2020, possibly as early as Thanksgiving weekend. This still leaves over a dozen projects in the works for Marvel Studios further down the road, all included in the studio’s most expansive slate of projects in its history.
One of those projects is the untitled Spider-Man 3, which is set to begin production early next year and bring back the entire main cast from the first two movies. Along with the familiar faces surrounding star Tom Holland, a brand new cast member has been announced today, one that will bring more craziness than ever to both the MCU and the Spider-Man franchise.
Jamie Foxx To Make Lightning Strike…Twice
A new excerpt from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Jamie Foxx is in final discussions to reprise the role of Max Dillon/Electro in Sony and Marvel’s untitled Spider-Man 3! No other details were revealed about the casting, although Foxx notably played the same role in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, when the franchise was solely produced by Sony.
This is one of the craziest announcements from the MCU in a while considering the implications of Jamie Foxx’s role in this third movie. His portrayal on Electro was one of the bright spots in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but nobody could have ever expected him to take on the role again, especially with Spider-Man now in the MCU.

While it’s unclear if this version of Electro will be the same one from his first appearance, there are already rumors circulating that this will be the case. One rumor has already planted the idea that Disney+’s WandaVision will cause such a massive shift in reality that it could lead to this version of Electro coming out of the Marvel Multiverse to give Tom Holland’s web-slinger some serious problems.
Fans are going absolutely bonkers over this casting announcement already as Jamie Foxx makes his unexpected return to the world of Marvel. With rumors already out about Kraven the Hunter popping up in the next film along with the chance of Spidey having to take on the first live-action Sinister Six, it’s safe to say that this could be the most exciting big screen movie in the character’s storied history.
Spider-Man 3 is expected to go into production in early 2021 before its anticipated theatrical release on December 17, 2021. What do you think of Jamie Foxx’s inclusion in the cast? How excited are you for the Multiverse to finally be explored in full?
