Catherine Sutherland, Legendary Pink Ranger, Talks About Her Experience On 25th Anniversary Episode “Dimensions In Danger”

Catherine Sutherland

Pink Power Ranger legend, Catherine Sutherland, talks about filming the Power Rangers’ 25th-anniversary reunion.

Catherine Sutherland is one of Power Rangers‘ most legendary characters. She is also considered a legend because of playing three different Pink Rangers. Those three Pink Rangers were the second Mighty Morphin Pink, Zeo Ranger One, and Turbo Pink. Sutherland played Katherine Hillard in the long-running series. I had the opportunity to interview Sutherland for The Illuminerdi’s sister page Morphin Network at Anime Pasadena 2021.

Sutherland’s Hillard first made her appearance in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 3. Her character was originally a villain that Rita Repulsa brainwashed in doing her evil deeds. However, this changes when the Power Rangers free Hillard from her brainwashing. She essentially becomes an ally to the Power Rangers. Eventually, she becomes the second Pink Mighty Morphin Ranger due to her bravery and good heart. Hillard became so popular with fans that she starred in Power Rangers: Zeo and the first half of Power Rangers: Turbo. Her character was also a love interest to the legendary Power Ranger himself, Tommy Oliver, played by Jason David Frank.

Since her last appearance in Turbo, fans have wished for Catherine Sutherland to return to the franchise. Their wishes came true as she reprised Hillard in the 25th Anniversary Episode of Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel “Dimensions in Danger.” During my interview with Sutherland, I asked about her experience filming the special anniversary episode. Additionally, I asked Sutherland about her thoughts on her character becoming the wife of Tommy Oliver.

Catherine Sutherland Interview at Anime Pasadena 2021

MORPHIN NETWORK: You were part of the Ninja Steel anniversary episode. Can you tell us what it was like going back an filming that episode and being part of that Special Anniversary?

CATHERINE SUTHERLAND: Yeah it was a real honor to go back. I was very nostalgic and watching all these you know kids that were my age when I came on the show. It was really cool and actually some of our stunt coordinators was one of our stuntman when I was on the show. So there was some people that I’d worked with you know all those years ago. So it was really neat and then to go to New Zealand was amazing.

MORPHIN NETWORK: What was cool about the episode was it made Tommy a dad now. So let me ask you this, do you think you are the mom of Tommy’s kid?

CATHERINE SUTHERLAND: Yeah they they insinuated that because of the Soul Of The Dragon. This comic book kind of insinuated that but I believe that there is lots of different universes now with the comics they have opened up. So there’s all different ways that it could go. But I believe in that episode they were kind of insinuating that.

In the Power Rangers franchise, Catherine Sutherland’s Katherin Hillard will always be a legendary character. Hillard started as a primary antagonist in the series but eventually became an iconic hero. To the point of possibly being Tommy Oliver’s wife and a mother to his child in the show. She was also the only character in Power Rangers history to play three Pink Rangers. With Sutherland’s special appearance in Dimension In Danger, we hope that she could return to the series and reprise Kat.
