Sony is coming out of an impressive year for their Sony Marvel Universe, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage earning more than $500 million worldwide and Spider-Man: No Way Home being the highest grossing movie of the year at over $1.8 billion worldwide. The next installment in this universe, Morbius, is expected to hit theaters April 1, 2022 after the film was delayed. Sony seems to have some intriguing pans for their Marvel Universe including a Madame Web film with Dakota Johnson attached and the upcoming Kraven The Hunter film, which is expected to hit theaters in January 2023.

Aaron Taylor Johnson is stepping back into the world of Marvel after playing Pietro Maximoff in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. This time he’ll be playing the titular anti-hero Kraven a notorious adversary of Spider-Man with a history of hunting the wall crawler. Aaron Taylor Johnson isn’t the only one who will be returning to Marvel with Kraven The Hunter, earlier this month The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Russell Crowe had joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Crowe will appear in Thor: Love And Thunder later this year making Kraven The Hunter his second Marvel project. Now, Kraven The Hunter has added another actor to this impressive cast.

KRAVEN THE HUNTER FINDS THEIR CHAMELEON

Last year we at The Illuminerdi first broke the news that Kraven The Hunter was looking to cast Chameleon. Now, Deadline has reported that Fred Hechinger has joined the cast of the upcoming film Kraven The Hunter as the titular character’s half brother Chameleon. Hechinger recently appeared in the Hulu miniseries Pam & Tommy, the HBO limited series White Lotus, and the Netflix horror trilogy Fear Street.

Chameleon aka Dmitri Smerdyakov is an intriguing character, one of the earliest Spider-Man villains, he is a master of disguise. Chameleon has a complicated relationship with his half-brother Kraven aka Sergei Kravinoff who was often abusive towards his half-brother in the comics. Interestingly Chameleon is the one responsible for setting Kraven’s sights on the Spider-Man in the first place.

Details about Kraven The Hunter’s plot are being largely kept under wraps. If this film follows the pattern of the other Sony films focusing on Spider-Man’s rogues it will likely explore the origins of Kraven aka Sergei Kravinoff, one of the world’s greatest hunters. Kraven is not only a skilled hunter, he gained superhuman physical abilities from an herbal elixer given to him by his lover Calypso, a voodoo priestess in the comcis.

Sony continues to build this Marvel Spider-Man Universe, but how it could all connect is still a mystery with the Morbius launching a multitude of fan theories. These films could potentially be leading to a massive crossover possibly culminating in a Sinister Six style team up. After the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and the praise of Andrew Garfield’s performance many fans are hoping to see his version of Spider-Man appear in this Sony Marvel Universe possibly being an integral part of what brings these characters together.

Kraven is an interesting character in his own right playing the role as villain an anti-hero at times. However, most fans are hoping to see Kraven, along with other rogues like Venom and Morbius, come face to face with the wall crawler at some point on the big screen. It will be interesting to see how exactly Chameleon plays into Kraven The Hunter and the complexities of their relationship in the upcoming film.
