During the press conference Loren Bouchard, series creator as well as co-writer and co-director of The Bob’s Burgers Movie, explained the strange “continuity” of Bob’s Burgers and how the new movie fits into it:

“It’s not any kind of linear timeline that we can understand using our own lives. I mean, this is sort of a circular space where this family seems to be going through this, sort of roughly, a year over and over again with different permutations. And then some things, we’ve pulled through. So, you can’t call it continuity, really. And certainly not for somebody who’s watching early seasons and late seasons, in the privacy of their own home streaming. And for them, it must be doubly weird.

Louise is on her mean green machine one episode, and then she’s riding a bike in the next episode. And so that’s not continuity exactly, but we have made a deal with the fans, I think, that as long as it feels right, that as long as there’s this sort of, it’s not narrative growth over time, but it’s kind of this layers that build up. It is depth. And so, for the movie, yeah. I mean, it’s got to fit in there.

And we are just now starting to think about these episodes that are gonna air after the movie, and they’re gonna air in the shadow of this event. But of course, they also kinda happen before. I mean, in a way, the movie happened before the first episode, so this is a weird game to play. But it’s fun.

When asked about whether or not fans will see the ramification of the film’s plot in the series next season Loren Bouchard kept his cards close to the vest answering, “Yes and no.” Bob’s Burgers has been on the air for over a decade and with more coming seasons there is more story to tell. And while the movie does incorporate a number of fun Easter Eggs, fans noticed an important one in the series leading up to the movie as well.

During The Bob’s Burgers Movie WonderCon panel a fan asked about the crack in the sidewalk that has been growing steadily larger each episode. When asked about this during the press conference Loren Bouchard was quick to share his joy at the fans attention to detail, “We were so happy that people saw that.” Bernard Derriman explained where the idea for this growing crack in the sidewalk came from and how it ties into the film.

“That’s from, well, obviously there’s a sink hole. That’s not giving anything away. So, we had that plan once we knew when the movie was coming out, we just started to work in this crack that gets bigger and bigger. It gets as big as it gets before the movie in Sunday’s [finale] episode, actually. Little pieces along the way, yeah.”

The incorporation of Easter eggs not only in the film, but the series leading into the film is a fun story element to incorporate that is sure to reward eagle eye Bob’s Burgers fans. It will be interesting to see how The Bob’s Burgers Movie may play into the series especially given the dizzying continuity concept that the series plays with. Perhaps the revelation surrounding Louise’s bunny ears could play a major part in the series moving forward.
