The Walking Dead has grown into a huge franchise since it first premiered on AMC in 2010. It has spawned numerous spin-off series and a planned film trilogy. One of the new spin-off series that has captured fans attention is Tales Of The Walking Dead, an anthology series that will explore new and existing characters in the world of The Walking Dead.
Although details about the series have been scarce we here at The Illuminerdi have been investigating and recently found some interesting new information. We recently revealed that Tales Of The Walking Dead plans to have an episode focused on Alpha, a major antagonist in seasons 9 and 10 of the flagship series. However, we’ve also learned some new information about two other intriguing episodes of the upcoming series.
TALES OF THE WALKING DEAD INTERESTED IN JIMMY SMITS AND JAKE JOHNSON FOR LEADING ROLES
According to our sources AMC is interested in Jimmy Smits and Jake Johnson to star in two of the episodes of the anthology series. From what we have heard Tales Of The Walking Dead is interested in Jimmy Smits to lead the episode with the working title, “Tales Of The Walking Dead: Naturalist”.
AMC is interested in Jimmy Smits to play the lead character, “Dr. Caulder,” in the episode. Dr. Caulder is described as headstrong, determines, a binary scientific thinker, and a naturalist. He has spent his life alone, devoting himself fully to the study of nature. He believes a new predator has usurped humans on the evolutionary scale and wants to preserve the new natural order. Determined not to allow people in, he regains an unexpected faith in humanity after meeting someone who forces him to question what is more important, nature of nurture?
AMC is also looking for a woman in her 30s of any ethnicity to play the female lead in the episode “Kristen Lee.” She is descried as sharp-witted, straightforward, and unexpectedly shrewd. A long-time survivor she consciously travels into dangerous territory. Kristen finds great significance in human connection and is quite adept at charming people, even those who prove to be closed off. She has a unique ability to see through difference she has with others and persuade them to see her perspective using sarcasm and humor.

Although details about the episode are scarce it is interesting that it seems to focus on a naturalist, a scientist who studies the natural world. Given the character description it seems like the episode could potentially take place right as the outbreak is starting, with the doctor working to preserve the new natural order based on his scientific belief. Should Jimmy Smits take the role he could bring the perfect amount of gravitas and stand offishness to such a unique character. Exploring a new perspective, a scientist who isn’t fighting to stop an apocalyptic event, is an unexpectedly compelling possibility for Tales Of The Walking Dead.
AMC is also interested in Jake Johnson to star in an episode. Although we haven’t been able to find out many details about the character or the episode itself we have managed to discover that the episode’s working title, “Tales Of The Walking Dead: Preppers” and Jake Johnson’s character would be one of the leads in the episode tentatively named “Joe.” The episode title is intriguing and seems to point to the plot possibly surrounding doomsday preppers, people who prepare for disasters.

If this episode is set before the outbreak or just as the outbreak is beginning it could be interesting to show a prepper who turns out to be right about a zombie outbreak. Should Johnson take the role, he may be the perfect actor to balance humor with the intense stakes of a world being overrun by zombies. Especially if he plays a man preparing for the worst who turns out to be right when everyone else has doubted him.
With Tales Of The Walking Dead being an anthology series it has a ton of potential to open up countless new stories. The series is said to dig deeper into already existing characters like the infamous Alpha, as well as tons of new characters. The Walking Dead has already expanded into a number of spin-offs. However, what makes Tales Of The Walking Dead stand out is it’s anthology style and the fact that any of these episodes could potentially lead to their own spin-off if the audience responds and the creators have more story to tell.

After capturing audience’s for over a decade The Walking Dead is in the midst of its eleventh and final season. The franchise has spawned multiple spin-off series, Fear The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Tales Of The Walking Dead, and the announced Carol and Daryl spin-off series planned for after the final season of the flagship series. Although the original series is coming to an end there are still a ton of stories to tell and Tales Of The Walking Dead could prove to be the most intriguing new spin-off with its anthology storytelling style. The series will allow creators to experiment with numerous possibilities and truly explore this world in a whole new way.
Tales Of The Walking Dead is expected to debut on AMC later this year, but no premiere date has been announced at this time. Are you a fan of The Walking Dead?
