The film is currently slated for a May 5th, 2023 release. This Guardians of the Galaxy film takes place a long time after the events of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame took place after. Before the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, we will see the cast return in Thor: Love and Thunder releasing July 8th 2022.

Star-Lord’s Comic Book Look

As seen in new photos from JustJared, Star-Lord is in his comic book attire. The outfit being worn by Chris Pratt in these photos is the Guardians of the Galaxy’s team uniform in the source material. Pratt’s Star-Lord also sports a cleaner look than his appearance in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, where Peter Quill appeared a little shaggier than normal.

New Uniforms for the Team

James Gunn and Marvel Studios opted for more unique and distinguishable costumes for the Guardians in their first few appearances, but it’s looking like this family of misfits is now truly a team.

We also saw Nebula wearing a matching Guardians of the Galaxy uniform, implying we will likely see the rest of the team wearing these new costumes. We do not yet know the circumstances of why the team is wearing these matching uniforms, but it could be as part of their now-official brand of galaxy-guarding. After saving the galaxy twice in their own films, as well as fighting alongside The Avengers, they have become quite experienced. Oddly enough, Nebula is one of the few members of the team that never wore this uniform in the comics. Of course, Nebula in the source material is quite different than the version we have seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
