The CW has announced renewals for a number of their series including The Flash for season 8, Batwoman for season 3, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow or season 7. Superman & Lois may not have gotten a renewal order, but two additional episodes have been added to the show’s first season bringing it to a total of 15 episodes.
The Flash’s renewal means the series will return for it’s eighth season. Arrow ended after eight seasons so it’ll be interesting to see if The Flash follows in Arrow’s footsteps or race past the series that built the CW franchise. The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow have not yet premiered their upcoming seasons while Batwoman Is three episodes into season 2.
Batwoman introduced a new main character in Ryan Wilder, played by Javicia Leslie, who has donned the cowl with Kate Kane now missing. Batwoman has not only introduced a new hero, but villain as well with Shivaani Ghai making her debut as Safiyah Sohail in episode 3. The episode “Bat Girl Magic!” not only saw the debut Safiyah it also has officially introduced the new Batwoman costume and wig.

Superman & Lois is set to premiere February 23, 2021 on The CW with a 2 hour event. Superman & Lois will follow the world’s most famous super hero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents. While it does seem like good news that the series will have two additional episodes the fact that it hasn’t been renewed for a second season is an interesting development. The CW CEO and Chairman Mark Pedowitz had this to say about the announcement of series renewals,
THE CW’S CEO AND CHAIRMAN ON THE MASS RENEWALS
“Though we’re just a few weeks into the new season, we wanted to get a strategic head start on next season with these early renewals, which allows our production teams to start laying out story arcs and hiring staff, and at the same time, continues to provide us with a strong, stable schedule to build on for next season,” said Mark Pedowitz, chairman and CEO of The CW.
“As The CW’s 2020-2021 season kicks into high gear, we are thrilled creatively with the direction of our first new shows out of the gate, ‘Walker’ and ‘Superman & Lois,’ that we wanted to order the additional episodes to complete their first seasons, and we are particularly pleased with the huge success of the launch of ‘Walker,’ which debuted as our most watched series premiere in 5 years.”
The Flash’s seventh season will premiere on The CW March 2, 2021. The sixth season was cut short due to the pandemic so the upcoming season will pick up after the season six finale’s cliffhangers. Barry is losing his speed, Eva McCulloch has escaped the Mirrorverse, and Iris is not only still trapped, but disappeared to somewhere new within the Mirrorverse. The seventh season will not only conclude the story from season six it will also finally introduce the real Godspeed as well as the villain Chillbain and much more.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow does not have a set premiere date, but the sixth season is set up to be as wild and ridiculous as usual with Captain Sara Lance having been abducted by aliens in the season five finale without her crew noticing. Legends of Tomorrow will explore their own take on aliens, different from Supergirl, and introduce a new series regular with Lisseth Chavez joining the cast as Esperanza “Spooner” Cruz. Two fan favorite CW series will be returning for their final seasons this year Supergirl for season 6 and Black Lightning for season four.
A number of other CW series were renewed as well, including Walker for season 2 as mentioned above. Walker was not only renewed for a second season, five additional episodes were added to the first season for 18 episodes total. Other series renewed include All American for season 4, Charmed for season 4, Dynasty for season 5, In The Dark for season 4, Legacies for season 4, Nancy Drew for season 3, Riverdale for season 6, and Roswell, New Mexico for season 4.
All new episodes of Batwoman premiere every Sunday. Superman & Lois will premiere with a 2 hour event on February 23, 2021. The Flash premieres March 2, 2021.
