Marvel Studios is diving into the more mystical supernatural corner of the MCU with the upcoming Moon Knight, Blade, and rumored Werewolf By Night projects. Exploring these characters opens the door for a number of exciting possibilities. One possibility that fans are especially hopeful for is a potential Midnight Sons crossover project. With the introduction of so many supernatural heroes, it seems like the MCU is primed for a new team of heroes to take on threats that no other group would be prepared to face.
In the comics the Midnight Sons are formed to fight demons, specifically Lilith and her children the Lilin, with the team being made up of supernatural and street-level heroes. There have been a few variations of the team and it seems like the MCU is introducing a number of characters that were a part of the Midnight Sons as well as characters that would perfectly fit into a new MCU version.
WHO COULD BE A PART OF THE MCU’S MIDNIGHT SONS?
The Midnight Sons would need a leader to bring the group together and interestingly Doctor Strange seems primed to fill this role. Doctor Strange served as a leader for the Midnight Sons in the comics and in the MCU he has proved himself to be one of the most powerful characters. Strange has acted as a leader before, taking over as the Sorcerer Supreme after the death of the Ancient One. Interestingly it seems like Strange will be facing some serious consequences for his actions in the highly anticipated Doctor Strange sequel. In the aftermath of Strange’s multiverse adventure, he could learn of a new supernatural threat that warrants the need for a new team of heroes.

With Marvel diving further into the supernatural, it seems like they have a number of ideal candidates for the Midnight Sons making their MCU debut soon. This includes Moon Knight who will make be introduced in March with the premiere of his solo series. Moon Knight’s ties to the Egyptian God, Khonshu in the comics, and his skills as an assassin make him a fantastic potential member for the Midnight Sons.
Another potential member or even leader, who is a part of the Midnight Sons in the comics, is Blade who has already technically made his MCU debut. Blade’s voice was featured in the Eternals post-credit scene when he warns Dane Whitman away from the cursed Ebony Blade. Blade is a skilled vampire hunter and as a daywalker unable to be turned, he’s also fought the likes of Dracula himself on more than one occasion. Blade is also rumored to appear in the upcoming Moon Knight series before his solo film. His debut in Eternals and rumored appearance in Moon Knight could mean that Blade is already recruiting heroes.

Although not a member in the comics Eternals may have set up Dane Whitman’s Black Knight as another potential for the Midnight Sons. Whitman’s Ebony Blade is a powerful magical weapon that is able to cut through anything. However, it does have its drawbacks as it has a history of plaguing the wielder with a growing blood lust. With Blade seeming to know what the sword is and finding Whitman it seems like the vampire hunter has taken an interest in Whitman’s future possibly looking to recruit him.
With the rumored Werewolf By Night Halloween Special likely introducing Jack Russel aka Werewolf By Night and Nine Price aka Vampire By Night it could be another perfect setup for a Midnight Sons project. Werewolf By Night has been part of versions of the Midnight Sons in the comics and his ability to control himself after transforming into a werewolf makes him a fantastic potential member. While Vampire By Night wasn’t a member of the Midnight Sons in the comics she did work with SHIELD’s Paranormal Containment Unit.
In the comics two of the founding members of the Midnight Sons are the Ghost Riders Danny Ketch and Johnny Blaze. Agents of SHIELD did introduce the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider, but neither Johnny Blaze nor Danny Ketch have been introduced as of yet. There have been a number of rumors about Marvel looking to cast Ghost Rider for an upcoming project which could point to the motorcycle riding hero coming to the MCU soon.
Two other potential members that could be interesting include Morbius, who is a part of the Midnight Sons in the comics, and possibly Scarlet Witch. The Scarlet Witch is not a part of the team in the comics and it seems like she may be going down a dark path with the Darkhold. This could point to a potential redemption arc in the future and working with Strange as a member of the Midnight Sons could be an unexpectedly perfect way for Scarlet Witch to find some absolution.

Morbius is a bit trickier as it isn’t clear if he will be a part of the MCU or the Sonyverse although the Sonyverse seems more likely. Hopefully, the new Morbius film will reveal where he fits into the Marvel multiverse later this year. If Morbius is part of the Sonyverse instead of the MCU a potential crossover in a similar way to Spider-Man: No Way Home could be the perfect way to draw Morbius into the fold.
With the supernatural corner of the MCU expanding with characters like Moon Knight, Blade, and Werewolf By Night, the Midnight Sons seem almost inevitable at this point. Marvel already seems to be building towards a few other teams in the future with the Thunderbolts possibly being recruited by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and a number of the Young Avengers being introduced in Phase Four. It seems like the MCU is leaning into some exciting new superhero teams and the Midnight Sons is the perfect way for Marvel to expand the supernatural corner with major threats that would require numerous supernatural or mystic heroes.
